I have been on this board for a few months now, and I have not posted anything until now.
I am sick and tired of the bitching and moaning of everyone. First of all, most of the folks at RAH weren't even with the company with the last contract was signed. I am here because I never got a call from XJT. I am from Houston, so that was my first choice, but I guess my 3000 hours, 1400 of 121 turbine, was underqualified for them. OK, here are my two points:
1. You guys who complain about the regionals need to remember that none of us grew up hoping and praying that one day, we could work for $100,000 or less at a regional for the rest of our lives. We grew up with the dream of working at a major. I understand that the industry has changed, but the jobs are still out there and all the majors will be hiring again within a few years. Remember, a regional is still a stepping stone no matter how big the jet you fly is. Get your time and move on.
2. Do you think the guys at HP complain when Dell starts selling more computers and people at HP get laid off or downsized? What about Toyota selling more cars than GM or Ford? ALL REGIONALS SUCK. PLAIN AND SIMPLE. Whenever the company you work for does not have control of it's own destiny because it is a vendor for a major, then you do not have job security. That is the main reason to get to a major, no matter how good or bad your current contract is. All of you guys crying like little babies, "our contract is better", or "they are taking our flying", is like two homeless guys arguing over a who's cardboard box is better. At the end of the day, you still live in a cardboard box. I feel bad for the XJT guys and the Comair guys about losing flying. It sucks, but it happens in every industry.
I have an idea. Instead of bitching at each other, why don't we use this forum to come up with some good ideas on how to improve the industry. We all took the jobs where we are at for various reasons, and we are stuck here until we move on.
