Delta set to add three more American 757-200s to fleet

Delta Air Lines is set to add three more Boeing 757-200s currently operated by American Airlines to its fleet as part of its ongoing push to expand its international services. The three aircraft, which are to be leased from Pegasus Aviation for five years from 2008, are in addition to 10 757-200s now leased to American by International Lease Finance (ILFC) that scheduled to join Delta's fleet in 2007 once the currently leases expire.

In a bankruptcy court document dated October 25, Delta requests court approval for letters of intent on the three 757s as they "will be beneficial to its [Delta's] on-going efforts to reconfigure its fleet towards an expanded international capacity". The aircraft, which are part of the 757-200 fleet American assumed when it acquired TWA, are to be equipped for extended twin-engine operations
of 180min.

Pegasus will contribute an unspecified cash contribution toward the purchase of winglets, notes Delta in its filing.

All three aircraft, like the rest of the ex-TWA 757-200 fleet, are powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW2037 engines.
Two of the aircraft, serial numbers 28485 and 30340, were built in 1999.
The third aircraft, 28479, was made in 1997.

That is 13 total, starting next July (at 2 a month). Some of our older 757s may go to other carriers, though, like Fedex. (just a rumor)

The 757 with winglets is about as sexy as your Grandmother in 9 inch stilletto heels....It was (is) a sexy ship to begin with. But as she ages, the winglets don't really add that much.


Now, the 737 dresses up nicely with the winglets. Even though she started life as a fat little turd, she get's better with age as things elongate and the winglets are added.


Too bad many of our (ex?) wives and girlfriends can't say the same.

P.S. - I am developing a small, add on, canard for my Penis. I think that will spruce him up quite nicely. Sort of a "Sean Connery Sexy" if you will.....Ageing, yet updated.

I agree, the 757 looks better without winglets. I'm flying the 757-300 a lot this month and walking around it (they don't have winglets) I find it is a better looking airplane.

So GL and the rest of the scum that voted for LOA51 will get to look at some new DL 757s with WINGLETS. Good trade for a retirement.

I voted no for LOA 51. But, I also realize the retirement was gone no matter what we did. No way was management going to go through BK and not take the opportunity to get rid of the pilot pension.

Nothing was traded for our retirement. The termination of the DAL pilot defined benefit plan happened independent of LOA51.

The 757 is a sexy plane with or without winglets. Whether or not one finds a 757 more sexy without winglets is a matter of personal choice, but at the end of the day it is more economical with winglets than without and that my friends is the bottomline.
