CEO says to retire after Delta exits bankruptcy

Thu Oct 12, 2006 12:09pm
Chief Executive Gerald Grinstein said on Thursday he plans to retire after the airline emerges from bankruptcy protection.
Atlanta-based Delta filed for Chapter 11 in September last year and expects to emerge from the bankruptcy protection in the first half of next year.
"It will be a little while after that," Grinstein said during an event in New York. "I think it is quits this time."

Good. I think Jim Whitehurst, our COO, will do a lot better. Ed Bastian, the CFO, may also do it, but he isn't a "people person" like Whitehurst. Bastian is a "numbers guy", a lot like Leo Mullin. Having a guy like that leading a company didn't do much for us at all.

Bye Bye--General Lee

I think you will be better off realizing that you will be under the supervision of the friendly NWA management team soon thereafter General:eek:

Wait until you get a taste of the NWA employee camaraderie:puke:

Nah, if we merged with NWA I think Steenland would give way to Whitehust. (just like Parker at AWA took the controls over USAir) Grinstein and Steenland will probably golf their lives away together.....

I like Whitehurst. I think he is looking to the future and wants to rebuild Delta into the premier airline. We need a guy like Bastion in the background though, keeping control of costs. But you need a guy like Whitehurst in the lead, moving the company forward.

That's funny. I seem to remember you singing the praises of Greed-stein a few years ago when he took the helm. Something about him "not liking RJs." Well, we see where that got us! More and bigger RJs still flying long routes!

You really have all the answers "after the fact." Can you see into the future? Did you know 9-11 was going to happen? You did? Why didn't you tell anyone? We all are hopeful when new people or new plans are implemented, but to know exactly what will happen is tough indeed. I didn't know much about Grinstein, but it sounds like you did. Wow. And yes, more larger RJs are flying longer routes, and more smaller RJs will be parked. They are the ones that are dragging us down against the LCCs. There are limits too when it comes to the larger RJs, which is a good thing. Expect a LARGE mainline order after we exit BK.

Meet the new boss - - - - Same as the old boss.

Exactly. It's a shame that the General isn't bright enough to figure that out.

How do you know NW employees won't be under the supervision of DAL mgmt? Last time I checked we have billions of cash on hand...how much does NWA have to "buy" a company?

You really have no idea what you are talking about. You have never met him and probably have never heard of him. Still, you talk like you know everything. You don't. Worry about your own problems chief.

Over $300 billion in possible investor financing.

Man there are a lot of idiots out there willing to part with their money...

There are many billionares that want to be millionares. Just invest in airlines. But, when USAir and United came out, their stock shot strait up. If you get in early, then you can do well. DL will have a great plan, and the creditors will see it and decide whether they can make more money after an initial stock offering, or thru a possible merger. Looking at NWA and their labor strife, and UAL and their questionable business plan and bad management, I am thinking the creditors may allow us to go out on our own and have our own stock go up. USAir is at $47 a share, and they are hedged at 44% this quarter at $74 a barrell. It will be interesting to watch.

:rolleyes:I sure hope so for your sake! I mean, would driving an RV be the same as flying that 767?

Amen....so there are some investors that are willing to put money into NWA...with more labor strife than us at Delta...with their new Compass airline...to BUY a company?
If it smells like...and tastes like....
Im no expert...but I don't see UAL or NWA buying anyone...maybe the other way around!

If you put the RV seats closer together it would be like flying an RJ.
Although, I have to admit, as a Canadair hater, I do like the EMBs....more leg room..no cramped arm room and "pleather"..all a CRJ is is an ATR TUBE with jets vs props. So instead of being uncomfortable for 55 minutes you are uncomfortable for 43 minutes. Great.......

Yeah, but MAN we are FAAAAAAST!!!!!!!;)

GL,

To clarify for all of us who come across your posts from time to time. You approve of the current DL mgt, the same group that you kicked and screamed about during the past concessionary agreement? Is that correct? Also the C2K contract that the DL pilots obtained under Leo Mullin - you approved of his mgt at the time he signed that off also - did you not?

Look I am glad DL is finally getting back off its feet and I agree with the speculation that there will be a sizable order for new equipment once the exit happens. But you are are like a rubber duck in a bath - just following the flow.

As to your expertise on managing - do you have any managenment experience and if so could you please expand?

respectfully,

fareview.

HA....

The only experience this moron has is how to correctly eat crow... He'll put on his cheer leader out fit and fluff the new management (whomever it may be) and when they do the same old thing, he'll come on this board and profess his vast experience and knowledge and how they "had" to do another concessionary deal to make that sh!thole stay afloat for a while longer. I still feel bad for my buddies at that place......

General....

Just keep voting yes and don't get rid of your knee pads there champ...

Karma's a b!tch aint it "bro"???????????????

Take careful note of Jen Lee's words and expect to see him deny he ever made them in a 12 to 18 month time frame...
