YUM! was advertising for a Captain over the last few months. Now I understand they are looking for a first officer.

Anyone interview for the captain position that would have any info?

I've been getting some mixed messages about this job. Some say one would be set for life, taking a job like this. Others say there must be a problem, that they took so long to find a captain applicant. Does anyone have any real scoop here?

Also, I thought the plane was based at SNA, but I just got an email stating it was at ONT. Anyone know for sure?

About a month ago I saw the F/O job on flipdog.com and also on the Yum website. I applied online and also faxed the chief pilot; never heard a word. I assumed the position was filled by now. I'd also appreiciate any info.

For what it's worth, I've been seeing YUM ads for nearly a year now. They've been bouncing around various websites for some time.

This tells me one of three things:
1. The job posts on one job website and another copies it to theirs, and another to theirs, etc. Thus, a viscious circle that never ends. (Most likely)

2. Yum is very picky about whom they hire. (Possible, but a year to fill a Challenger position....really?)

3. Yum is experiencing a very high turn over. (Doubtful, but 'ya never know).

About six months ago someone on this board mentioned getting hired with them as a Captain. I don't recall what his screen name was, but there have been several posts about Yum since and no one is talking.

YUM!

2000FLyer and others,

I was the one who was hired by YUM! in September. It is a great job and a great company to work for.

You have it just about right with your #1 and 2 answer( you post a job in one place and it is all over the web in a matter of minutes, and always stays there).
It takes time to find the right pilot. We are not looking to find an airline pilot who is furloughed(or going to be real soon) and who will jump back to the airlines IF they ever get there act straight. we are looking for the right individual who fits in our operation. And believe me, it is not a one interview process. I think I interviewed 6 times before I was offered the position. With very little talk of aviation during the interviews, it is a matter of finding what type of person you are and what potential you have.

There are many aspects to a professional corporate flight department, as everyone can see from another subject in this area about "a typical day for a corporate pilot". Not everyone is meant to fit the shoes of a corporate pilot; meaning flying is not all we do.
Good luck to all of you who apply; YUM! Aviation Irvine is indeed a great place to be and I work with a great group of people.

Also, with myself being new to the Southern California area, you all would be amazed at the number of SOCAL candidates arrive at our office wearing jeans,, polo shirts, sunglasses on their head, chewing gum, etc... Whatever happened to wearing a suit and tie to all of your interviews???After all we are a Fortune 300 Company and you will be flying the leaders of this company.

I have to admit it has been an amazing process for me to watch.
Good luck to all

Capt601,

Albeit late, congrats on the new job! I remembered someone getting it but didn't remember the name.

You are correct about the interview problems. I've seen guys just stop by to "drop off a resume" in the shorts, sandles and a t-shirt.

I have also been in interviews where they show up looking like their ready for the beach party and not a great corporate job.

The best one wasn't in the clothes he wore. It was an airline interview and his very first question during the HR briefing was "How many days a month can I expect to have off?" I about fell out of my chair (along with several others).

Anyway, thanks for clearing up the YUM hiring questions. And, again, congrats on the job!

The position is still open. We are looking for a FO or Captain with a minimum of 3500 TT. Our Dir. of Aviation is out of the office for just overa week, so it will be at least until then for any calls.
Unfortunately, I only have a little say in the beginnning of this process.
Good Luck.

Pete,

The type rating is not a requirement.

A good attitude is a requirement.

Good Luck,

capt601,

Sorry for any confusion, but the website I mentioned does show the position as being filled.

Glad to hear there's still a chance at getting a shot at an interview.

Thanks for keeping us up to date.

I think on the corporatepilot.com site "open until: filled" means that the position does not have an application deadline, but is open until a suitable candidate is found.

unrelated...

Capt601...

btw... I notice that there is no Taco Bell here @ PV, what's up with that? And as part of your benefits, do you get TB coupons? Wife wants to know.....

:)

FLywrite, thanks for clearing that up. You're right.

Capt601, you wrote "The type rating is not a requirement. A good attitude is a requirement."

On climbto350.com the position is advertised with the following info spelled out in bold type:

YOU MUST BE TYPE RATED IN TYPE TO APPLY! THIS EMPLOYER HAS REQUESTED THAT YOU INFORM THEM OF YOUR LAST Challenger 601 PC.

Capt601,

Was the first officer position ever filled?

I think I may be able to clear up some questions. About 6-8 weeks ago I overnighted in Corp. Christi. I rode to hotel with a Southwest crew, and an ASA crew. We met up later in hotel bar and introductions were given out. Throughout the course of the conversation, one of the pilot's said she had just been hired on to a Challenger in ONT. Capt601, I will not mention her name because she seemed to want to stay anonymous, and I will keep that going. But tell her the frac pilot that was talking to her in the bar and at lunch the next day say's "hello", and I hope she is only carrying her own bags now! That should get a smile, but also a story about some very egotistical people she had the misfortune of having to fly with. I hope that my assumption ( read W.A.G.) that this is where she is, is correct. She is a very nice person and I'm sure a benefit to your flight department!
