Not to much info on hotels. Infact we stayed at a Quality INN about 10 minutes from the airport. I think it was 50 a night.

The place you WANT to stay is the Holiday INN by the highway. Why? There is a club there.

My FO and I were shocked...this club was packed! Prob 200 people all under 30 and many many hot and intoxicated women:) And no cover. Maybe the reason is because there must be NOTHING to do in that town.

Not what we expected from Youngstown to say the least:)

Youngstown isn't the safest city, you know. Maybe everyone was packed inside the club in order to avoid the crossfire from the Bloods, Crips and La Cosa Nostra.:D

BTW, I went to college in that area. Do you remember the name of the club?

It isn't that bad....just certain parts of it...

The club name I don't know, but he's talking about the Holiday Inn at the corner of Mahoning Avenue and I-80 in Liberty. He's right---has become very big in the last few years on Fridays and Saturdays. I don't live there now, but I grew up there, and it's a different crowd from the ones you used to see at Pal Joey's and all the other downtown haunts by YSU---they've all closed as the university has expanded. YNG is a different town now folks---all it takes is throwing the congressman in jail to get the place humming on all cylinders! Finally something good that can be said about Traficant!

Do you recall what he did for the air base there with regards to federal funding? How about the federal buildings he brought to the area? Or the lot of money and projects that he secured through his time spent in DC?. I didn't think so. Before you slam the guy you may want to do a little research. He did wrong and made some bad choices and he is now paying the price but he also did a lot of good for the people of his district and the majority of the place still respects him for that to this day.

Back to the original question, the name of the night club inside the Holiday Inn is called "Choices". It is or atleast it was ok, the Core downtown at Federal Plaza which is a short drive is probably a better all around place which is modeled after the martini bars in South Beach. (atleast they tried and the folk that frequented the place are much nicer to the eyes).

You are also only a short drive 1 hour to Cleveland and lot's of entertainment can be found on 6th St. and in the Flats.

Pittsburgh is also only around 1:20 away and the Strip district has many nice places. Matrx, Club Touch, H20, etc. Station Square is also a happening place on the weekends.

Next time you do a YNG overnight check out either the Core downtown or take the drive to either CLE or PIT.

The Holiday Inn is a "decent" place but surely not the best in the area. You have many places near the Eastwood Mall which is only a short 5 minute ride from YNG and many new hotels are there, lot's of good restaurants, night life, etc, can be found in that area.

If I were you I would make sure you stay near the Mall and I think you will probably enjoy this area much more than the Holiday Inn. Bailey's, BW3's, O'Donnell's, Kahunaville(sp?), and many better options are near the newer hotels.

hope this helps

OK, 2 points. First, obviously 350D has a better handle on the club scene than I do, so by all means listen to his advice! The area around Eastwood Mall has really grown and is very nice, and I've had many memorable nights in the Flats but that is a drive on the roads and the OHP isn't famous for their leniency. On the second one, though, I gotta raise the flag! I don't know ANYBODY I grew up with, family still in the area, politicians I knew back when I used to be in business in that area (read NOT in a cockpit but in the boardrooms), ANYONE that thinks well of Jimmy! Oh sure, there's a few die-hard liberals, from the "Let's elect a Democrat and they'll bring all the steel mills back to Youngstown" crowd who like T. because they buy into all the conspiracy crap that the G was out to get the little guy, but otherwise?! Please! Having grown up there, I've faced the "Oh yeah, you're from that city where they (take your pick) blow up all those guys in gang wars/threw the congressman in jail/set the river on fire (OK, so they confuse us with Cleveland sometimes!)" Anyway, whatever. Things have changed there, according to my sources---people realize that the old days are gone, and they have to make things happen if they want to survive. I hope so---it's a great area, and the people deserve a break after some of the heartaches of the last 30 years.

350 - You raised some good points....

However, I wrote my post from the POV of two pilots without a rental car:)

And it was farking 12° when we were walking around:(

Traficant had been a target of the FBI/IRS ever since he made a laughing stock out of the the govt' when he represented himself and won acquittal on bribery charges back in 1983. This really didn't come as any surprise when they finally got him, he was a marked man the day he walked out of that courtroom some 22 years ago. I surely don't think that your feelings are shared by the majority of that area who saw what he accomplished while he served the people who elected him to quite a few consecutive terms. He was one aggressive, active congressman who took on the IRS, introduced and passed more bills than most other representatives during his time.

A rental car or even a taxi can get the job done. Either Winner or Ready Air I am sure would get you a decent per day rate on a car. Either way it is not one of the finer places to be stuck in but knowing the right places to go may make it just a tad more enjoyable.

Oh I am sure they could have set us up with one.......but the company I work for dosne't throw us a car at every port :(
