Just bought a Garmin 396 today, and sometimes it takes quite a while to get the weather data to come up. I'll have a strong XM Signal, but it takes a while for the wx to be displayed. In fact, its sitting by the window right now, and its been about 10 min since I turned it on, and still no data. I talked to my brother, who flies an Aztec with XM weather playing through an Avidyne, and he has the same problem. Anyone else have these problems?

Oh, the 396 is awesome! We are getting dual 430A's installed in the Citation next month with XM Weather playing through the GPS's, but I think the display on the 396 is going to be way better than the 430's.

I'm running xmworx through a tablet pc.

xmworx gives you a play by play section to see whats going on.

For the most part it takes about 10 minutes to upload all the info so you're not wrong. There is a lot of data its downloading.

We have XM displaying through the 530. Awesome tool but it seems that in the last month or so it will sometimes come up right away while taxing out and other times it takes almost 20 minutes airborn before it comes up.

I've got XM playing in a 430 and on an MX20. It does take a few minutes to get the entire product line downloaded, but it seems to start working through the list immediately. Today I noticed that the Nexrad was up before I even started to move.

I did go through a spell early on where some of the products were not downloading at all. We had to do several reinitializations to get it all working.

Our 396 is the same way. It just takes some time to download all of that info.

Also, I noticed something strange. Our 430 has XM weather as well, but even though they are displaying the same time delay, sometimes the nexrad display of precip position is slightly different between the 430 and 396.

Anyone with both notice this too?

The 396 with xm is nice, but can I ask why a citation doesn't have color radar?
I would think wx thats more than a couple minutes old would be worthless on a fast mover? Nothing like real time.

Uh yeah it does have color radar, but having the weather datalink enables us to see the weather that is beyond the range of the onboard radar, and make decisions based on what the weather is doing 300 miles away.
