Hey guys, I have a few questions about Expressjet.

- How long do you have to be on reserve (IAH, EWR)?

-How is seniority decided for the same class?

- How many hours can you fly on reserve if you want to fly a lot?

Tanks a lot guys.

1. Most recently it has been 4 months of reserve in EWR until you can get a conversion line.

2. Birth date.

3. You fly what they give you. You could put yourself on "will fly" on days off, but it doesn't matter you still wont fly. One FO flew 68 hours last month. I'd say that's a lot.

EWR is junior, even though IAH is twice the size, it just seams like everyone likes IAH. IAH is second with CLE being the most senior and smallest base. If you want IAH, you may get it right out of training, but probably not. It all depends on staffing needs. Usually only a month or two to get moved to your base of choice either through your perm bid or a base trade.

EWR- 197 lines

IAH-400 lines

CLE-142 lines

What about the QOL in EWR, is it better than IAH? I'm single with no obligations other than paying my loans.

EWR is super expensive, so most people based there are commuters. But if you can afford to live in Hoboken, NYC or some other happening area go for it. Alot of people live in Eastern PA and drive the hour and change, but it's whatever works best for you.

CLE is great, but you will be on reserve for a long time. Downtown living in CLE is still resonable, I paid $800/month for a big 2 bedroom. CLE gets a bad wrap for the harsh winters and all, but living downtown is alot of fun.

IAH is the cheapest. It makes me sick (but mostly jealous). There has been an ad hanging on the wall in the crew room for a brick 3 bedroom with a 2 car garage, and some land for $145K. I can't even buy a condo for that where I live.

Now I commute and have made EWR my base just because I hold a much better line then I did in CLE.

Thanks for the info rattler. I start class next monday and have not decided what base if given the choice. i was told IAH has much better routes, but on reserve i want something to do while not flying.

None of the '04 new hires are off reserve yet but it looks like it'll take them about 10-12 months.

I was a march new hire and i have had a reserve conversion line for two months and in october I have a relief line. I am missing a hard line by about 5 in novemeber based on just seniority. I was only on "reserve" for 2 months. While reserve conversion and relief may not technically be LINES they have been great. I only worked 16 days last month for 80 hours. This month is even better. I love being able to trade trips around.

No complaints here. New hires i have talked to coming out of training are being told only a couple months on reserve based on current growth. Probably all depends on how quick you get on.

by the way, I am in houston

I understand relief lines -- lines constructed from remaining pairings after regular lines have been built using formulae, and might also include reserve days, right?

What's a conversion line?

"relief "line is a guaranteed line made up of open trips,,,"reserve conversion" is the same thing, just not guaranteed (you bid a reserve line and put in a request for a reserve conversion line..if theres open time left after the relief lines are built thell build you a line)

I was hired Feb. of this year, and am holding a hard line in IAH. I would be holding a conversion line in CLE, and a relief line in EWR. I'm 2100 on the seniority list out of about 2400.

i was in the new hier class in March, i pulled five months of rsrv. I hold a rsrv convrsn, 10-12 to get off rsrv in CLE might be steep.

Is it possible to drop or pickup begining or ending legs of your trips so that you can start/end where you live rather than your base? I've heard of this at other airlines but do they have this sort of thing at coex?

Also how many buddy passes do you all get?

you can drop as much as you want..as long as there is coverage...seems like they are pretty well staffed in ewr on fos, but not on captains lately

Sorry, no.

You can personal drop the last turn of a pairing if there is adequate coverage. They won't let you drop a leg at an outstation to let you go home early. That would be a logistical nightmare.

I have heard of some guys trading at out stations like ORD. But if it actually happens and crew shd actually lets you do it... good luck
