I read that before the Wright Amendment SWA could only fly intrastate and that the Wright Amendment (not directed at SWA) allowed any airline that stayed at Love Field (again not directed at SWA) to fly to the bordering states (later amended). So, the amendment set LUV free!

As a Tarrent County resident I hope SWA will reconsider DFW. Since the Delta closing it is a ghost town! And, no CRJ's (a tribute to General Lee) cloging up the taxiways!! Although, you would have to deal with the slow moving MD-80!

Thoughts? Fly safe- Rum

Actually Love Field was free before the Wright Amendment, Wright just made it restrictive again. Before the Airline Deregulation Act SWA was restricted to flying within Texas. President Carter signed the Airline Deregulation Act, which among other things allowed SWA to fly outside of Texas. In fact they could have flown DAL - LAX if they wanted to. Speaker Wright had his amendment pass which reregulated only Love Field. So basically Love was restricted, then freed, then restricted. Now SWA is trying to free it.

Love Feild was not restricted before de-regulation. The CAB was what restricted the airline industry. Read Sky Gods, about Pan-Am and their fun time not getting any help from the CAB (back in the day). After the industry was de-regulated, SWA applied to the weaker CAB to fly out of state for the firdt time. They got approved to fly to New Orleans. Then Braniff, TI, AA and everyone else got upset and sued SWA again. Jim Wright put a stop to all of this with his sneaky Amendment attached to another bill.
