First off, happy turkey day everyone.

Second, a question for those of you at World. I've done some searching and reading up on posts here about the company/lifestyle. I also have a copy of the contract I've been studying. I still have an unanswered question (actually a few, but we'll keep it simple here):

What is your "average" number of days off. I know the contract guarantees 12, but what can you typically expect? (please include your relative seniority). If you could describe your typical month, that would also be appreciated. Or, how many days did you spend on the road last year?

Thanks, Moose

Well, since no one else has chimed in ...

I spent almost 2 years at the Big W having left this summer. Days off (at home) can vary from month to month when you are an "open flyer" (not on a hard line.) There were periods when I had 3 consecutive weeks at home every month for a few months. As an open flyer I don't think I ever stayed out long enough to break the 65-hr guarantee -- although I know of a few pilots there who brown-nosed the schedulers and stayed out long enough to get 100+ hr paychecks while others were getting paid 65 hrs (when you are open your income is, in effect, at the whim of the schedulers.)

When I was there most hard lines had 14-21 days off. A few paid block, most paid THP (trip rig.)

By the time I left they were just starting to fix the on-line volunteer system from the '05 contract which gave guys a lot more control over earning extra coin on their off days.

Good crews, awesome layovers. But lots of commercialing around in coach as an open flyer. Good money for an ACMI carrier.

They take the training contract seriously.:smash:

Thanks GP. And thanks to those couple of dudes who sent PMs. Good to know 12 days off isn't the norm.

Pretty much what GP said is accurate. Your schedule will vary and some will depend on where you live. i.e. If you live in say ATL or JFK vs. Bozeman or San Antonio the guys in ATL or JFK will be easier to commercial than if you live off of the beaten path. Scheds looks at filling seats not who has worked thier a** off and deserves some time at home but they live in ATL so out they go again. You are wlcome to PM me if you have more questions..............Happy Thanksgiving etc......
