Would anyone here consider working as an FAA Inspector? Why or why not?

Feds get a bad rap sometimes, so if you got hired would you be a good cop or a bad cop?

A bud is leaving the regionals to be an inspector. For him it is a significant boost in pay, security, and work rules. Seems like a no brainer in that instance.

It can be a good thing if you like paperwork and regulations. Some people do, honestly.

Just keep in mind that it's not a flying job, if that's important to you.

The only part that appeals to me (other than stability) would be to try and help my fellow pilots out. It would be nice to save folks the burdens associated with honest mistakes...

When you make a statement like that, it is clear that you don't have what it takes to work for the FAA.

High, I'm from the FAA and I'm here to help. Ya right!

not to high jack the thread but how come the feds never seem to post on this site? I never see anything on the FAR section. You would think that the feds would always have something to say but they never post. Whats up with that?

Umm....

There is at least one inspector who posts regularly to the FAR forum-- his username is JAFI.

I made the jump to the "dark side" about 2 yrs ago. Initially it was a pay cut, but now I'm making more than I did as a check airman, good bennies, make your own schedule, and depending on the office complexity, still fly once/twice a week.

Contrary to popular belief feds dont sit on the thrown in the morning and decide who we want to tag with a violation. Most pilots out there want to do the right thing.

good to know. As a FAR Part 135 Bottom feeder pilot, I wish that the feds would go after these operators for duty time violations but they seem to be silent on the issue. Lack of enforcement is a de facto approval of this practice (operators VERY convenient interpretation of the regs concerning pilot rest requirements, etc.). Bottom feeder operations wouldn't exist if the feds would be more proactive. Yeah, I know, Im part of the problem because I accept employment and do not quit but that is easier said then done. Gotta pay the bills you know?

It's a government job, which means you'll never be rich, but it takes an act of God to get you fired, you have the best retirement system there is, an a$$load of vacation time, and some of the best job security there is. Sounds like he's in a good place! Good for him.

I would be a rest/duty naz* if I had a fed job. Duty rules are not taken seriously at many places and I think that's wrong.
