Who the heck would agree to work for Kalitta Charters II on their 727s or Diesel 9? These are some of the worst conditions I have seen for that type of operation (yeah, I am sure there are worse out there). 18 days on/ 12 off. Pay own hotel during training (obviously they want local pilots in YIP). Upgrade to new seat goes back to year 1 pay.

Yeah, I am sure Doug is expecting real "winners" to fly for his operation. I am sure he expects people to pay him for the "opportunity" to fly junky 727s and DC9s. But look, there was a class for FEs in October - yipppee!!!

I have heard the regular Kalitta 747 operation is better. I would love to hear why anyone would consider flying for Kalitta Charters II and stay there for a few years... If you want to build hours, Mesaba is hiring too and you can fly newer equipment (Saab)...

If you eliminated the airlines and charter companies that were not top notch, there would be a whole lot less jobs and less opportunities to get started.

There are a lot of pilots who for a variety of reasons don't have the perfect resume to get on at other places, unlike most of the really cool pilots who regularly post here. Or the pay at the other places, i.e. Pinnacle, Mesaba is not worth even trying. I am talking about ex-Zantop L-188 Captains, late 50's, someone who has made a career change after early retirement. 0 flt time at age 50, or over 60 pilots with no retirement where the FE is paycheck. There are many reasons to work there and it is everyone's option to apply or not apply as they feel the need.

Although I'm not very familiar with K2 nor do I have any desire to work there, I have heard from some DC9 guys who are very happy. The schedule for the diesel is 9 on 9 off.
There is no question that the sched sucks for the 72, although they are "home based" meaning you can live wherever you want and have a paid ticket to and from work. Attrition at K2 is no where near as bad as the regionals so some folks are content working at K2.

Their captain pay is $125/hr for first year pay. I realize k4 has 12 more hours guaranty a month, but it takes 7 years to hit $125/hr.

Actually less than four. The pay rates get adjusted every year for the next four years. In four years, forth year pay (captain) will be $128/hr. Not the greatest, but not the worst!

They had called me several years ago for the 727. I was furloughed at the time and still decided to turn them down. Unemployment payed nearly as much as they did. They did however, hire me over the phone, no interview, sim ride required! I guess if you lived right there by YIP it wouldnt be too bad, otherwise, forget it!

I talked with the DC-9 Crew in RFD yesterday, seemed pretty happy. They both liked the 9 on 9 off and decent pay.

My next door neighbor in ypsi. at the time worked there for about a year because he was furloghed from northwest. We moved and last I heard he moved as well.
