Are there any regionals out there that is actually hiring, not interviewing to simply turn someone away, but hiring?

I am starting to think that this is a lots cause, too bad this is the only thing that I do that I love.

hang in there

Hang in there my friend.

Try to remember that there are over 12,000 furloughed pilots industrywide who have extremely impressive qualifications.

Most of them have worked for a number of airlines as both Captains and F/Os and have literally thousands of hours of PIC and SIC turbine in crew environments.

In other words, its an employers market. They can pretty much pick and/or choose whomever they would like to hire.

We should be thankful that the proliferation of pay-for-training that occured in the early to mid 1990s has not yet returned.

This is not to say that you will NOT find a job doing what you love -- just that it may take some time. This would be an excellent opportunity for you to look at the industry you've chosen and learn from the furloughees.

Do you have a plan B? Do you have any other advanced education or marketable skills which might help you keep food on the table should you ever face a furlough?

This is a blessing my friend. The industry is giving you the opportunity to not only earn some fantastic experience flying night-freight or 19 seat turboprops (like we all did in the early 90s pre-RJ explosion), but also to develop a "plan B" for you and your family.

Good luck!!

Who's Hiring

8hourpilot:

I agree with Otto -- there are a lot of qualified pilots out there, but I can tell you, from first-hand experience, that you don't necessarily need to have 8,000 hours and 737-time to get a job.

What ARE your qualifications? Do you have any turbine time? Do you have your ATP? Do you know anyone at any of the carriers? Have you been attending Air, Inc. seminars?

There are regional/national airlines hiring right now. For example, ATA has another class starting soon and Comair is still starting a new-hire class nearly every Monday. I spoke yesterday to a senior ASA captain who said that ASA will soon be continuing its hiring.

Don't give up if an aviation career is truly what you want.

Newbe

Dude first u need to get some school on and fix that spelling thing. Kidding! Go to the FBO and try to teach, traffic watch what ever u can do with airplanes. 135 is tough now unless you have the mins.+++ yes reigionals r hiring but not 600hr people. As for hang in there advise? don't use it just try to fly and get paid. Nuff said?

Air Wisconsin is officially holding a new hire class on the 18th of August. A total of 48 pilots will be added between that date and the end of the year. Plans for next year....who knows!!

Mayday.

I've got:

2200 TT, 1600 PIC, 1200 ME, 450 Turbojet SIC, ATP Multi Land.

What carriers are my best bet right now?
Would it be smart for me to by a 737, LR35, or Citation type.

Thanks,

Nice Avitar. I won't be able to buckle my seatbelt now. thanks.!!!

Just think. the industry sux, but there's always porn!

I don't think most regionals want super-experienced furloughed pilots. Keep your your resumes active, your efforts relentless and you'll be there before you know.

I was going to say 'Keep your poker in the fire' after seeing Jakesnakes avatar. SWEEEEEETTTTT!!!!!!

CR@p I guess the morality police took the avitar away. Well, I just lost my interest in this thread. It was sweet though.

Get your resume in quick, I think Airways will hit bottom before too long so alot more pilots will be in the mix. I heard that after managements bonuses, Airways has $37.21 left over to buy RJ's.

They want them, but many want them to give up their right of re-call too. While it sux for the furloughs, business wise it's hard to justify training a guy you know is gonna' jump ship ASAP.

Hang in there guys, the industry is turning as we speak (I think).

-Boo!

all great points but...

All of these are great points BUT...

None of them answer the guy's question.

Who is hiring right now? (regionals only please as this is the regional airline forum)

Oops, sorry. I can't think of anyone who is hiring right now. Comair, ASA, ACA, Expressjet, Eagle, Skywest, Mesaba. I don't think any of them are hiring. Possibly Comair, but you'd have a better shot if you went through their training academy.l

Best thing might be to get a job making some real money, and save most of it. Then in several years if and when demand for pilots comes back and minimums go down, apply for work at a "regional" airline. You'll need that saved up $$$ because we're all in the "let's see who can work for the least amount of money" mode right now.
