G550 Baby!!!!! Its going to be a common type with the G650! :D
 
As an unemployed pilot about to get a Type in Gulfstream, which one would be better?
GIV, 450, 550 ????

As an unemployed pilot-your money would be better spent on getting your ratings in which you have time in current. A G4 rating with no time is nice but worthless to most contract operators.
I would go after the type where there is more work..ie more models flying..that would be the IV.
 
If you have NO Gulfstream time and are still set on getting a G-something type rating - and cost is no object - then the G550 is the type rating to get. It covers the most aircraft (G350, G450, GV and G550). A GIV type is a great type to have, but I believe they're not building the "classics" any longer (G300, G400) with the SPZ avionics.
 
The V type would be the best. Just make sure you get differences training also for the the 50 series aircraft. With almost 500 aircraft between the 4 aircraft available with the V type there is no shortage of airplanes to fly. Getting on one with no time in type is going to be your hardest obstacle. Most pilots are driven by their ego when making this decision. If you have 20 Lears around you and only 1 Gulfstream, well, it should be obvious. If you don't have clients set up or contacts who will get you some time, don't waste your time and money. Remember, training is your shelf life. You are good for one year only. good luck.
 
I have been in your shoes and I agree with Mountain Troll, This approach is high risk and one risk most people cant afford. Check the ego and start Networking, its your best bet.

save your money....find a job you want....then take the money and go do a sim session for that company....
 
GIV seems to have more operators. I have over 1000 GV hours, typed, and couldn't even get an interview--must be who you know.
