I am a 22 year old CFII, with about 65 credits of college done, and two months ago I joined my states viper unit. I will miss this next school year year with bmt and tech school but I will return just in time for the fall 2004 school session at the age of 23. As soon as I get back I need to settle on a degree and stick with it.
I'm not going to get an engineering degree which I am sure looks good for the military. So I've narrowed it down to two remaining choices.....

Option 1: Business/Human Relations Management. I'd only need another two years to finish, seems like a learning experience that could be applied to the military. Looks decent on my Upt packet.

Option 2: Elementary Education. It'd take two and a half years to finish, because I would have to student teach a semester.
If I never got a slot I would enjoy doing this and CFI'ing on the side. But is this going to hurt me? When my resume goes in front of a board are they thinking either I'm gay or a wuss?
(even though I am plenty built and still play all their stereotypical "manly" sports)

If anyone has any experience being on a board or getting interviewed, picked up etc. I could really use the advice.
thanks!

Unless you're planning to be a test pilot (requires technical degree), it just doesn't matter. Just get it done as soon as humanly possible.

I'm going to leave the "plenty built" remark alone. Do fighter units have a swimsuit competition? :D

Peace,
DP

The degree you choose doesn't matter a great deal for the military and your pilot slot, but my advice is to choose the major you enjoy and that will lead to a field you wouldn't mind working in if you had too. Everyone has to leave the military at some point in time. When you do, the airlines may or may not be hiring. Also, many people unfortunately lose their medical qualifications somewhere along the way. It is always good to have other options just in case you need them one day.

Best of Luck

When you get an interview, tell your board that you're an avid viewer of "The Man Show". :D
