Looking for information about London. What are the best airports for a longer stay. 7 to 10 days. Hangar space? Security?

What are some good hotels for an extended stay?

Hog

Luton is great. In London the Marble Arch Marriott is a great place to stay. Lots to do and plenty to eat.

If you want to stay at a fantastic Bed and Breakfast that's south of London, I have a great recommendation for you. PM me if you want the info!

Lonodn town...

I'm over here now, and usually stay at the Marriott Grovensor square but was sold out. We are staying the Marriott Park Lane, and I like it much better then the G.Square. It's a much better place, and more up to date in all areas. It's a quiet locale right of Hyde Park. Weare paying about 165 pounds per nite, w/o the VAT. The Marriott Marble Arch is ok, but we stopped staying there around the time the war started due the high amount of Middle Eastern folks in that area. The Park Lane is close to a bunch of shopping/eating, and the underground. I have to say that it appears the "belly shirts" are back in fashion over here big time..Woohooo.....No BBQ though..:+(

Marriott Marble Arch, aka Little Baghdad.

Marriott Govsenor Square, Great Location.

Marriott County Hall, probably the nicest Marriott I've ever stayed at, and the price will reflect that.

St. Michaels Manor (Luton Area), I will second that, great country resort type place. Good for the Golfers.

Hey Hog,

Always glad to try and help out, especially a fella with a moniker like that. You sound like you might be from down in my neck of the woods.

First thing, buddy...and no offense...but some of these fellas answering you must know you, and you must be pretty green. I mean, they are feeding you a bunch of malarkey, and you seem to be swallowing it!

Again, no offense...but you must not have done much of any flying, if you can't catch on to the nonsense they are trying to pass off on here.

Like, for instance, this "Luton" place, and all those other "airports" (???) they are talking about. Well! I've been flying in and out of London for years and years, and I've never heard of any of those places. So let me just set you straight:

The only airport that makes any sense to operate out of London is the one just south of town: London-Corbin Magee Field, of course! The strip is 6000 feet long and that ought to be plenty to land one of those F-18's that you bragged about in your profile. Is that a taildragger? They sell autogas too, so you can fuel it up cheap.

Of course, you could go to Somerset, but that's 25 miles or so south...pretty far to walk if their crew car is out pulling stumps...and anyway, that's across the Tennessee line. So...no way you would want to go to Somerset, just stick with Magee Field.

Now as to places that are good for an extended stay, well, I'm partial to the Super 8, they will give you a good weekly rate if all you want is to change out the towels and empty the trash twice a week (Do yourself a favor and don't mention my name).

If you want to splurge, you might try the Ramada, I hear they have one of these free Continental breakfasts that the people up north like, but personally if I were you I would stick with country ham, eggs & grits like the locals do.

Lots of things going on in London this month. The World Chicken Festival is the 25th through the 28th. While you're in town, don't forget to see Colonel Sanders' original cafe...yes, London is the very place where Kentucky Fried started. Save me one of those wings, extra crispy, yum, yum! Shouldn't be long until dove season starts, so remember to bring your shotgun. You can get a real good deal on shells down at the pawn shop.

Anyway, hope you have a real good time in London, and don't let these guys pull your leg any more.

Be real careful, because after all London is not too far of a distance from "Hazard," Ha Ha. Actually they have been doing a lot better at Hazard, so much so that I hear they are thinking of changing their name to "Caution," Ha Ha.

When you get back from London, write us and let us know how the trip went.

Your buddy,

Finally! Someone who tells it like it is. The geography is a little screwed up, but very valuable information overall. (Somerset is about 25 miles WEST, and definitely not in Tennessee, and the original KFC is in Corbin, not London.) I've been to a few Londons: Kentucky, Ohio, and the one across the pond. The Kentucky one is not bad, but the fish and chips suck. OTOH, Weaver's Hot Dogs are world class!

My vote is

Intercontinental Hyde Park - good piano bar - good cocktails and scenery. good location.

or-

The Ritz London (150 Picadilly) Great location - great rooms. Best martinis in town (as long as they aint on you dollar!!!) and heck you can go right across the street to shop for your new Rolex or Prada wear...greeat. but seriousy, nice hotel.

or-

If you are a Marriott Addict (yuk) - Marriott Grovesnor Square - good location also.

Luton/Stansted seem to be the popular spots. Farnborough is new for corporate but personally I think just plain TOO far away P(unless the M1 is screwed up)...

get a week long underground pass...best way around. read the signs - look both ways before crossing.

If you are a big war fan (like lots of pilots) be sure to check out Churchills war room near Downing Street. Great WWII info.

:D

If you are there for a short stay (we always are...) I vote for the Hanbury Manor (Marriott property again for you Marriott $luts) nice digs, quiet, good golf. Its close to Luton and Stansted. 20-25 mins...

HAVE FUN.

P.S. Women in London all seem to have big breasts.
