Just curious as to what restrictions there are to landing a float plane or helicopter on (residential ) lakes. My brother is looking at some property on the water and thought that would be a nice alternative to an airport.

Thoughts?

The best source for this info is in the Seaplanes Associations' Directory. There are some local - city, county, state - restrictions. Usually common sense and courtesy will allow some access to most navigable bodies of water.

You can land them on grass too. :)

And runways too, but the results aren't as pretty.:D

Yeah they probably wont land too well on the water after that! :p

I've heard that it just destroys the runway (and the floats, obviously). Would be interesting to see some results of that happening.

Google!!!

My sea instructor always said to make sure not too land on too small a body unless you wanted to leave the plane there...FOREVER...FOREVER...forever...

Just buy the SPA waterlanding directory. It gives you information on contacts, what lakes you can and cant land on, as well as restrictions you may have never known existed. Its saved my but a few times.

Is that a picture of a mooney you have there?
