We understand life for smokers has gotten pretty difficult over the last few years with smokers often forced to leave the secure area to catch a smoke. This is often so inconvenient (or impossible due to quick turns) that one might go for half a day or more without getting a smoke break. This has forced smokers to begin to smoke in places in which it is prohibited. With many of us being ex-smokers we sympathize with your dilemma but we are unlikely to be able to help you if you arrested or fined by the local
police. Be careful or better yet, do what we all did and quit.
While we do not know what next year has in store for us, we do not anticipate any base realignments or reductions until March of ne xt year at the soonest.
Lastly, we want to take a moment to wish all of the employees in the flight department a happy holiday. Most of you will be flying at some point over the weekend, and we thank you for doing what you folks do day in, day out. We are quite aware of how difficult this last year has been and hope as you do that next year will be more fortuitous.

So now I guess I'm on the street middle to the end of the summer. From what I hear quite a few people left in the week prior to thanksgiving. At least 2 Capts have been picked up by America West (congrats you two, talk about finding some luck in a WORLD OF SH!T) and 2 FO's off to Air Wisky.
The bottom line is the more the RJ's get delayed and pushed of getting online with the contract carriers, MDA and PSA the longer we get to stay around. In short, the more everyone else screws up the better off we (ALG) are. Now thats a bussiness plan.
So I log onto the company web to check my pay sheet and see this, from the Chief Pilots office:
"Special Update for Wednesday, December 3rd, 2003
On Monday, December 1st, the Flight Department sent recall letters to all remaining furloughed pilots. We plan to have the furloughees flying again as soon as contractually possible."
I can't see more than 3 or 4 of the 18 furloughed comming back as several got jobs with PDT, others moved on to other flying jobs, and some outright quit.
Unless I'm mistaken for thoes that got job at PDT why come back to ALG only to be furloughed in March. They may as well stay a PDT, at least they'll be safe at PDT until 2005.
What a screwed up company - now ALG and PDT are fighting over furloughed guys because so many are leaving - sad state - thank you management - I can't wait to go to work now - the happy work environment that it is.
