Other than the cost? I fail to see what an academy can offer you that a local flight school (FBO) can't offer you.

I think I answered this somewhere else. Truth be told, with the exception of maybe some cool simulator I really don't see what an academy has that an FBO can't have. I train at an FBO, we have airplanes, and instructors. Single and Twin Engine, what else do you need? The academies would have you believe you need a CRJ type rating or some lame Jet Transition course. Call a few recruiting departments at the air carries you want to work at. Ask them what they are looking for.

Awesome desertdog. Call the Airlines. Best advice out here!

I would compare the two as Landry's Sea Food Vs. that spot on the corner. At Landry's everything is very standardized and if you want that extra side of mayo be ready to pay for. That spot on the corner will either be the best place you ever eat at the best price, or vice versa. Before going all the way out to Landry's and paying their prices, at least stop by that spot on the corner.

Money. Thats the difference...

Nah...we chose the word "Academy" for our business name...cost isn't anywhere near the ATPs or DCAs out there...

The difference? The owners that decided on the name. You'll find "time builders" and "wet ticket CFIs" everywhere, not just at "Academy's". Just shop around, make sure you've got what you want...you'll be stuck with your decision for the rest of your life.

This big difference I have seen is standardization. While this may have both positive and negative effects, try this little experiment. Fly with someone from any 61 school. Then fly with someone from any 141 school. (No names mentioned here notice?) Watch everything from preflight to shutdown. Notice anything different? If you can't see the difference, flying might not be for you.
You have 90 hours, you know when things in the airplane are just half-assed together or done "by the book". You be the judge.

I'll beat scott to it. DCA sucks, they'll rape and pillage your family, stay away at all costs.

Jeeze, You should have never brought your nemisis into this thread. Keep you negativity to yourself. ( Hope everything is spelled correctly)

Then you are an idiot, and I say that with all due respect.
