I notice on the Polar website they say they are still hiring F/O.'s I sent a resume / coverletter and did the online app about 4 weeks ago, when that add 1st came out and haven't heart anything.

Has anyone been called for a Polar interview in the last month? Anyone who is currently at Polar shed some light?

Thanks

I spoke with the Chief pilot the other day..(dan wells) down in Long Beach..the encouraged me sending in a resume, then he realized how much flight time I have then he wasn't too interested..

I can't explain it.....

I interviewed at Polar in the end of July 2002 with 4 other folks. We were the last of 36 candidates interviewing for 18 FO slots, and were told that we would probably be put into a pool if selected. We were also told that there were plans for more hiring (no dates given) in the future because Polar would be taking delivery of more aircraft.

Unfortunately, none of the 5 of us were selected. We all received a rejection letter about 7 days later. All of us were on furlough at the time: Three were from USAir and two of us from an ACMI international wide-body cargo company. (the 2 of us are now back to work)

If anyone would like more specifics on the interview process, feel free to PM me.

I sent several resumes over the last year, and filled out the app, no response.

Same, I sent them a resume back in June. I then read a post from a high time pilot asking for Polar info for his upcoming interview.

It appears that they are looking for pilots with a lot more hours than we have, and guys with big aircraft experience. Too bad, I was up for seeing the world and never coming home.

CCDiscoB:

It's true: Polar says they prefer guys with widebody (preferably 747) experience.

Of course that doesn't mean they haven't or won't interview guys with other experience. Three of the other folks I interviewed with had flown nothing larger than an A-320, so go figure....

Well, I'm in the same boat as everyone else here. Sent a resume at the end of June, and received confirmation of receipt July 4. Never heard another word ...

Its all about who you know....lets face it, there arn't a lot of 747 drivers hanging around looking for work, so that they can be that picky. I know of a guy with nothing bigger than E120 time that went to the right seat of a -200 with them a ways back. He had friends on the inside.

.....Anybody roughly know the pay and working conditions at Polar? I did a search, and it didn't pan out. Thanks in advance.

I interviewed with Polar back in April, I have yet to get a rejection letter or any contact or response from them. I thought the interview and sim session went well and the Polar management type that observed the sim session said that it went well and that they would be in touch with me in a weeks time. (He was also on the interview panel as well) Called back on three occasions and still never got a result.

Really upsets me as I spent about $1200.00 on the interview with transportation, lodging, sim prep, and missed wages.

To not give me the dignity of a response either positive or negative is pretty low.

Call them back today!!

FearlessFreep:

Please call them every day until you finally talk with someone who can give you a definitive answer. The most likely reason is an administrative snafu or a lost letter. Unfortunately, I have seen these kinds of things happen to some of my clients at nearly every airline. The HR departments are pushing LOTS of paper, and things do slip through the cracks sometimes.

For all of you guys:
Reality check: The folks pushing paper at airline HR departments, People Departments, or whatever they call themselves, are usually not what you would call "seasoned professionals." They are typically young folks in their first/entry-level job at the airline. They are probably more concerned about which bar they are going to that night than whether your application file is kept immaculate. The things which you consider more important than life itself are not necessarily that important to them. Bottom line: you are nothing but a faceless name and SSN.

If something doesn't seem right during your application process or the pre- or post-interview processes, then CALL THEM! Be polite and tactful, but do not let them just blow you off. If you remember someone's name from your interview, then ask for them by name.

It is never normal to NOT hear from a company you interviewed with. Follow up until you know where you stand.

Polar interview

I interviewed 4 months ago with Polar. I have heard nothing. I guess no news is good news.

The last thing I heard is that they are hiring all the ex-heavy types first ( DC-8 and DC-10 ). Which makes sense, but I still don't have a date.

I would appreciate an update if anybody cares to keep the rumors going. Thanks.

Jim
