Both ways suck. Ask yourself, do you want to fly at day or night? You're going to be a bottom feeder either way. Unfortunatly, the only other viable option is to go military. You will be able to have pride in yourself that way. I wish I did it that way instead of going to the regionals.

Hi!

Or you could come to USA Jet, where the quality of life and pay is better. The downside is you don't fly as much-average about 45 hours/month.

PS-Our 3 newest guys are all previous FOs: Spirit, Air WI, and Pinnacle.

Hey there Socal Pilot! First of all, I'd like to start by wishing the best of luck while you're out there following your dreams. NetJets is a great place to work and I think it will only get better in the years to come. I was 23 years old when I was hired here and I couldn't picture myself anywhere else.

After graduating college, I went to work at a local flight school just like most other civilian pilot grads. The owner of the flight school bought his own King Air and chose me to fly it for him. I later got on with a small charter company flying people to the Keys and the Bahamas. After that, I spent a little time flying for Hilton Hotels and then finaly got an interview with NJA.

As you can see, there re a million different paths that you can take. From my understanding, charter jobs are a little hard to get in California. A friend of mine who I graduated with went out west while I chose to go to Florida. Needless to say, I flew a lot more than he did and found a lot more jobs than he did. I don't know you so I don't know your personal situation but if you can get out of California for a while, it would be easier on you to do just that. You can come down to Ft. Lauderdale or somewhere in the Miami area and find a cool little job flying light twins out to the Islands everyday. There's nothing fancy about those kinds of jobs but it's some of the most fun flying. I got to see so many cool little islands and meet some of the coolest people I've EVER had the pleasure of meeting. The weather allows for more than 320 VFR flying days a year. Very rarely would you ever have to worry about getting fogged in or not being able to break out on an approach. The only thing to avoid are the thunderstorms and you can do that pretty easily down here. 90% of this type of flying is done during the day since most of the islands are closed after sunset. That makes it even nicer!

Look up some operators down in KFXE, KFLL, KMIA, KPBI, and KTMB. I bet you can find a job somewhere around that area within two days.

Have fun and good luck!!!

How things have changed. When I graduated from college in the early 90's you'd have been lucky to find even an instructing job!
