Is it how many stripes you wear and what side of the aircraft you sit on? What size and type aircraft you fly?

Or is it how much money you earn...along with work rules, rigs, quality of life, job stability, retirement/profit sharing, benefits, etc?

All other things being equal, would you rather make $160K as a Captain or $170K as an FO?

What if your $160K Captain job came with compromised QOL, poor management relations, and uncertain future job security, whereas the $170K FO job had great QOL, industry leading labor relations and off-the-charts job security?

What would you prefer?

I want to get paid the most amount of money with the least amount of work. But that is just me. I don't care about the type of airplane I fly. Enjoy life because you are only allotted so much time on earth.

How many lunches and dinners that i make with my kids..... How many days do i get to have breakfast with them.... How often can we just pack and go on vacation..... How many times you are there to comfort them when they get scared.

Off the chart job security, for a minute I thought you were talking about WN.

If they had off the chart job security, they'd have offered to take the first furloughs in the transition agreement with FL since they have never furloughed and it would show goodwill to their new step brothers and sisters. However, even SWAPA realizes there is always a potential for furloughs.

+1 good questions that every swa pilot had to choose when they decided to pursue swa. If there's one thing you need in order to be a Swapa pilot- it's your priorities in order.

All these people devaluing money as if it plays no part in happiness are outside of their mind.

(now if you spend it unwisely and don't use it to be freer- That's your own fault)

Ummm... you are in the wrong profession then.

I get paid really well, I get lots of vacation, I make dinner and have breakfast every day with my kids and of course they make their way into my bed at some point almost every night.

I'm not a pilot :)

I have way more breakfasts, lunches, dinners, vacations and overall quality time with my kid than any of my neighbors who do not fly for a living.
Working a mon-fri with a 8 a.m. commute getting home at 5 or 6 p.m. doesn't leave a lot of quality time for a family.

Hmmm... yes I can see that. I happen to be in a job where I do research which means my schedule is whatever I want it to be and I can work from where ever I'd like to.

Given a regular office job though... you probably have a point.

Yeah- everything has it's pros and cons- but I don't know many pilots lurking on "researcher" forums...

When asked if you want vanilla or chocolate ice cream. It's best to just say "Yes".
