For those of you folks who've been on a 7 and 7 schedule, what do you think is the best day to start and why? I was just wondering what you folks think the best week is, Mon-Sun, Thurs-Wed, Sun-Sat, etc... Also, why do you think that would be the best schedule?

The best one is the one that works best for you. Everyone will have a different opinion on this. Also remember that there are 2 starts for each start day, in alternating weeks, so you have to take that into account - looking down the road to see which weekends, birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays you'll have off.

And remember that start days vary by fleet, so there isn't a choice for all seven days in a given week. In the Ultra/Encore fleet, there were only 3 start days offered. I ended up with Saturday starts and while I would have preferred Thursday starts, it's nice having every other weekend off. Plus, parking and traffic are much less of a hassle on Saturdays, so far.

But as Ultra Grump said, there are pluses and minuses for each day. Holidays, birthdays, Little League, church, school, etc. probably play a role in the decision for a lot of people.

I like starting mid-week (like Thursday starts). I'm able to get home on Wed, take care of business at home, and then go somewhere for a long weekend, come home and have severals days to take care of stuff before I head back out on Thurs.

Others like weekend starts because they will always have some part of every weekend at home. The down side is you never have a full weekend at home unless you use sick time.

Anything but weekend and Monday starts. Here's why: if your significant other works a regular 9-5 job, then you can enjoy the three day weekends they get each year(Monday's off) with them without having use vacation days. Same with spending time on the weekend with friends who work a M-F schedule.

...But also taking into consideration what "Ultra Grump" says in a prior post, of course.

Ok, I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "2 starts for each start day". Could you explain that a bit more?

Say you want a Sunday start...you have 2 options...
Work 1/1-1/7, off the next 7 days, work 1/15-1/21, off 7 days
or
off 7 days, work 1/8-1/14, off 7 days, work 1/22-1/28

Ahhhh... I get it. I was just looking at the days of the week, i wasn't looking at which weeks they were.

I worked Sunday starts for a long time then went to Tuesday starts. after 6 months I went back to Sunday starts because of the traffic in Chicago. That was all before we got fly from home. You really have to look at where you live and what is best for your situation. Saturdays and Wed seem to be the slowest days demand wise. You might take that into account if you have a choice.
