A friend of mine is flying MSY - MCO and his wife freaks out over water. Is it common to fly over the gulf, or fly around the rim...over the panhandle and down through the florida peninsula?

The flight is Southwest at 7:55AM, Sunday morning....

thanks....

We used both routes, depending on WX, restricted areas in use, etc.
Does Southwest carry life rafts? If not, they'll file the land route.
Suggest you check the flight on http://flightaware.com tomorrow and see how they're routed.

Southwest doesn't carry rafts but they do carry life vests so they can fly 160 miles off of the coast instead of the normal 50. So it is possible to get the overwater route on Southwest,
