Well, basically I'm at 325 or so hours with 14hrs MEL. I currently have two years left of college and pretty much all my ratings except my CFI. I've done all my ratings part 61 and I had been trying to do my CFI part 61 as well, but I'm out of money for the most part. I'm debating if getting the CFI is even worth it and if the airlines will really care that much about that certificate. I'm debating going to American Flyers or ATP so I can take out loans for them. What are some options I have with my amount of hours? I know it's not enough to go to an airline and I'm looking for a job that I can accomodate with school. Is this boom supposed to continue into the next couple years? Do you think I would have a decent chance getting into an airline if I just keep steady with my hours? Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!
 
Continue going to school, and try to find a p/t job to get the money for your CFI/MEI. Get a CFI job for a year to get some experience.

Not having to pay back that big loan for ATP or AF is worth a lot IMHO.

As to the future hiring: Who knows what will happen. There are some guys on this board that have predicted the current hiring boom several months or maybe years ago.

Get the CFI certificates and at least 100 ME flying on instruments. You'll feel a little better about applying for an airline job.
 
My CFI has been a great asset to my airline career. When I talk to my FOs, they can tell me what captains have had CFI experience and which ones haven't. They usually prefer to fly with those who do have the CFI time. In addition, my position as a check airman was due somewhat in part to my past CFI experience.

I would recommend CFI'ing for a while. It worked well for me, and built my confidence up. Since you still have quite a bit of school left, you can get some great teaching experience and still get the job you want right out of college. Also, it feels really good to get paid to fly.
 
Someone just told me that Trans States Airlines will take you with an instrument rating and then they will finish your COMM Multi in the simulator for you! Go there for a year and cut out to somewhere better!

Wow. I don't even know why somebody would want to do this... I get paid MORE as a CFI that I would at TSA, I get PIC time, and I am learning an unbelievable amount every day I fly. Plus it's a ton of fun teaching people how to fly! Sure, there'a couple of students that try to kill you, but it just makes you that much sharper, lol.
