Well here it goes. I am currently a regional FO, been there less than a year. I have been offered a job with a part 91 corporate jet operator. Pay will be roughly 55k a year plus bennies, flying about 350 to 400 hours per year. I will get typed after the first year then can log PIC jet time. My future goals, right now, are to fly for Fedex or UPS, possibly a major passenger carrier, if either of those two don’t work out. How do Fedex, UPS and/or the majors look at part 91 jet time? If I go corporate, are my chances of getting on with somebody in the future greatly hampered? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Watch how you log that PIC time....I'm typed and still dont log PIC even if i'm sitting left seat and am PF. I'm not ultimately PIC on the release.

Anyone have opinions...should i be logging if i'm sitting left seat and PF on a 91 flight? I doubt southwest and others will count that towards the 1000 hr pic requirement. Am i wrong?

I'd make the move...you'll love it, especially if its a good company - their are some operators that will make a regional look like a great job though...

goodluck.

My advice is stay at the regional and build your time there. Get your type, upgrade to Captain and get your 1000 PIC. I am not saying that UPS or FEDEX will turn you down because you fly corporate. In my experience they seem to hire more pilots from a Military or 121 background. I was just talking to a FEDEX pilot the other day about this same question. He recommended to that Pilots applying should have the 1000 PIC in a 121 environment, preferably jet time. I can't speak for everybody but that is the information he gave me.

Good luck to you!!

When I flew into the Louisville hub nightly, the crews I talked to said the same thing.
Good luck- rum

Good grief, we are going to get into another one of those "who makes the best pilots" or "what kind of flying is better" threads.

But one thing, stay in the 121 world. Not because the flying is better or whatever. The possibility to make friends/contacts that might help you out down road is much greater.

The amount of CA's that you fly with that will move on to (insert airline here) will be much better than at a corporate gig. Don't forget, the FedEx app has a space to three recs from FX pilots that have flown with you operationally.

Dear Nack55,

Your list of a/c flown needs spaces.

Love,

Brett

PS: Define "Less than a year".

Nack pm me if you want some advice from a corporate pilot that went to the regionals

This is very true...especially if your long-term goals are a major 121 carrier. Staying 121 would likely be your best move.

On the other hand, for someone who desires a 91 job a 121 regional is one of the worst places to be. Its not because of the airplane you fly or the skill set you have, its because of the lack of networking you'd otherwise do in FBOs and Marriotts with other corporate operators.

Bottom line is regardless of what sector you are in (121 regional/major/cargo, 91, 135, or fractional) or eventually want to be in, NEVER STOP NETWORKING and keep your contacts active by contacting them regularly.

Disclaimer: I was a 2-year CRJ FO that made the move to a Part 91 job (that I only had an opportunity for due to networking!) two months ago...and I couldn't be happier with the move.

Max Q, thanks about the spaces, that was pretty
ridiculous. As you can see, ive been a member since 04 but only have posted 3 times. Thats the first time I have seen my profile.

Less than a year means about five months.

The company has had a jet for about 15 years, and is a very stable company. Pretty safe job security, but the plane is always the first thing to go.

It will take forever to get competitive hours going the corporate route. You can count on 900-1000 hours a year at a reginal
