Hello All!

I have been furloughed from the Airlines since Oct 02 and have been flying as a Corporate Pilot based in the North East ever since. I have been with my current Company for 1.5 years, flying as Captain in an Astra Jet. I feel that my collateral office duties far exceed the norm and the pay is far below average. I have listed the details of my job below.

Flying Days
Part 91 - Corporate (Company greater than 2 billion in sales)
325 flying hours per year (Co-Captain) - they paid for the type
usually long multiple leg days, mostly domestic, some Carribbean/Canada/Mexico
6-8 RON's per month
some weekend/some holiday flying

Nonflying Days
Scheduler/Flight Coordinator for the Company (800hrs a year)
In the office 3 to 4 days a week
numerous secretarial office tasks

Benefits
2 weeks vacation
2 days off per week (maybe)
401K
Health Insurance

Can any body give me an idea of what I should be getting paid based on the above details? Before I approach my Manager, I would like to get your Professional Opinions.

Thank you all in advance!!!

The 2005 Avcrew surveys says:

Beech 400 captain

Based on 20 pilots participating

Low 42K

Medium 63K

High 115K

Average $62,275

The survey does not take into account collateral duties.

I have no clue what a Beechjet salary survey would have to do with what an Astra captain would make - they're two different animals. I've been flying corporate Astras for 12 years. Forget what the salary surveys say. Most of them are pretty bogus anyway. I know a lot of Astra guys. Starting pay for a corporate position like that would be in the $80K to $90K range. Most guys will be in the $100K to $120K range within a few years. I know Astra pilots making $130K+. (FWIW, there are Part 135 Astra positions in SOCAL that start at around $105K.)

PM me and I will copy you the information from a compensation survey we did in house. I believe that it is very reliable.

Hope this helps.

Only Astra guys I know make about 80K.

NY area.

good luck.

for all those duties and based in the North east you should make 250K

:)

Propsarebest-

You are right, we need a Full Time Scheduler. I will be suggesting this to my Mgr. I have truly come to appreciate how much work goes into scheduling a so-called "simple" trip.

Gulfstream 200-

Thats the number I have been thinking, without any collateral duties. Thanks!

Please keep the responses coming!

In my experience, if they make you do anything other than stock and clean the airplane, do Jepps, and maybe clean the hangar, they are either tight wads, or can't afford the airplane. Flying and doing all the above is a full time job. Any work they have you do at the office is over and above. If they want you to do two jobs, they should pay you for it.

Of course, I'm sure I don't know the whole story, and I have no idea what an Astra pilot should be making. But I have worked for people who had me doing things other than flying. In only one case was it justified, and I was glad to do it. I have also turned down jobs where people wanted me work in the office too.

I don't know if that is any help or not. Just my 2 cents.

A few things to consider....

1) Here's a response I got via PM in January '04 when I was entertaining offers from 3 different Astra operators. This is from an FI member who's the CP for a mid-west(?) based dept.:
I just hired an experienced Captain yesterday. Starting him at $89K with a bump of another $2.5K in six months if he does well. On top of that we have a week's pay for Christmas bonus and a 10% of salary as an annual bonus. First year pay just over $100K.

2) About a year ago I was offered an SPX job in Chicago with starting pay of $105K.

3) Lowball 135 operators in SoCal are offering $65K to start.

4) LeadSled speaks the truth when he says there are Astra pilots making $120K. I've met a few of the same guys he's talking about and they aren't based in SoCal or the NE.;)

General Dynamics subsidiary in PVD may be looking for someone soon.....PM me
Did we fly together at BEX and see each other in TEB recently?
