if you have ever worked at an air carrier just ask for your training records and your complete employment file. You are entitled to see everything the company has on you. Also fill out an NDR form, notorize it and send it to washington dc. get a full copy of your state driving record as far back as they can go(varies from state to state) get your fingerprints taken and send money to the FBI/NCIC, I forget the address but it is in one of the threads on here. Then call up a background screening company and ask them to do a full 10 year background check on you, credit, criminal the whole works. Also if you have worked at an air carrier tell them you would like to see the results of your 10 year background check, they have to show you everything they have got on you. Then call your past employers and see what they have to say about you.. If you do all that you should know everything about yourself and then some. Any aviation job you have worked the last 5 years ask them for everything they have on you... its a pain in the butt but the peace of mind is nice if you are worried about anything showing up or to make sure no mistakes are on your records.

-Notarized MVR request (some require you provide your own MVRs)
-Information on previous employers (verification if no longer in business (ie. W-2 or letter)
-Copies of pilot certificates
-Copy of passport
-Copy of radio permit
-Copy of transcripts (not all require this)
-Flight time grid
-Miscellaneous forms to sign or initial

The more time consuming items to obtain are the MVRs and transcripts if you do not have them. It takes about two weeks.

Once you complete one set of paperwork, any additional ones will be simple.

Just Curious...

An additional question....

Who else besides the Part 121 airlines require a 10 year background check? Would you need to complete PRIA forms for Corporate or the bigger Part 135 companies also?

Unfortunately some airlines do look more and more at your credit now a days. Keep in mind that bad credit is not automatically a disqualifier for a job. It doesnt always look the best however. Dont worry about it too much just try not to get anymore bad marks against it and try to get any outstanding balances paid off. Most jobs in todays world that are significant do backgorund checks now. This includes driving records, credit history, criminal history, employment history etc.

I wouldn't go through all that time and effort unless you think there is a problem. When you fill out the application, and it asks if you want to receive duplicates of your records, check "yes".

If you get turned down during the verification process, then you would have a valid concern, and may need to take the steps someone else delineated above.

Remember, if they are spending the money to do the check, they WANT to hire you. It is a time-consuming and expensive process filling pilot seats. If there are delays getting your records, offer to help "shake the trees" to expedite the process . . . it has worked for me in the past.

As for credit- they aren't looking to see if you owe too much to AMEX, they are looking for bad stuff like judgements, chargeoffs, etc.. . . in other words, a lack of discipline. or a really deviant pattern. Of course, if you have an UGLY report, then I am sure that wouldn't help much . . . . .

Breathe in and out. Relax. . . . . Good Luck.

Airlines should look in the mirror first

Like airlines should have anything to say about your credit history, ................yeah right!

thanks

Regarding the credit report, I wouldn't worry so much about your FICO score (mine is low, since I have no credit really to speak of minus a car payment that started 3 months ago). They are more looking to see if you make payments on time, are in serious debt, etc. Pay your bills on time, and don't carry a large balance on any credit cards, and you should be fine. Nothing to get really worked up about.
