Just saw this list of desired personal attributes in a job posting (for Spirit), thought it was kinda interesting:

Ability to learn rapidly
Sound analytical ability
Excellent judgement
Emotional maturity
High tolerance to stress
Leadership ability to communicate efficiently
Professional appearance
Willingness to take command and make decisions
Location: Living at or near on line stations or willingness to relocate
is a plus. Living at pilot bases is preferred.

Honestly,

Being able to get along with the guy/gal next to you for four days.

Most pilots can be taught to fly any airplane, the question is can you stand to be around this person for any length of time.

That is how an airline pilot should be measured.

She must work for Delta, know all about all, and have nearly 3000 pedantic posts here letting everyone know much she knows!

What makes a good pilot??
A really big watch, cool sunglasses and a large cubic inch wallet

Equal parts knowledge, skill, and fear.

The Knowledge of what you need to do.
The skill to be able to do it.
And the fear of knowing what happens if you screw up.

To misquote an elegant passage...

The true aviator is one who can use superb intellectual skills in order to avoid situations in which (s)he would have to use superb piloting skills...
