I was told by two different recruiters recently that you CANNOT become a pilot without a technical degree. One of them even said that they weren't excepting people as officers unless you have a tech. degree!! I'm currently working on my degree at Utah Valley State and it's in aviation... just plane old aviation! I was thinking of changing it up to aviaton management- because they said management degrees were better- any thoughts on what these recruiters were sayin or about my choice of degrees? thanks

Total garbage, especially for becoming an officer. Ever since I was in ROTC the rumor has been floating around that you need a technical degree to become a pilot. Not true; I was a communication major. I've seen rated pilots who were English and history majors - even knew a marine biology major. The only time you need a technical major for pilot related stuff is when applying for Test Pilot School.

Recruiters

Make sure you are talking to an Officer Recruiter. Some times to make quota, certain recruiters will not tell you the whole story in order for you to sign up with them.

When I went through flight school, I discovered that the whole thing is designed for non technical majors. In fact, they even told us Aero Engineers that what we were being taught was wrong but designed for the history types.

To make sure you are getting the best information visit the various web sites and call and ask to speak with an Officer in the recruiting office. If they tell you they don't have one, then ask for the nearest Office that has one.

Good Luck!
