"Our radars are still the same as before"

The issue with the radar depends on what TAWS system you are installing. Most need an MFD to display on,like the Honeywell, Avidyne etc. These older radars are for the most part not compatible with the digital MFD's. So if you want to go the MFD route you also need new radar. We removed our perfectly good Primus 400 and installed a new IHAS system from Honeywell. It includes a new radar (rdr2000vp), taws and tcas 1, all in one system. It's a nice piece of equipment except the radar is a piece of junk. Low power, not good for much over 80 miles or so. We also have the uplink for getting metars and tafs plus ground based radar, comes in real handy.
