Just curious what other companies are doing when a pilot calls in sick?

1 Will you receive a phone call or e-mail from management inquiring if you are okay?

2 Will they call or e-mail you for every occurrence, let's say you call in sick tomorrow for the first time this year, will that generate a phone call or e-mail, or is there a certain number of calls per 6 month period or per year that triggers it??

3 If or when does your company require you to visit the "company" doctor after a sick call?

Your input and feedback is appreciated!!

Deleted. Sorry, I'm on Tapatalk and didn't realize this question was in the majors forum.

In 13 years, I've never had it questioned, not once. It's been rumored that if you call in sick on the first trip after vacation or a holiday, you might be asked about it, but I have had to do both and never heard anything about it.

We do get a decreased monthly accrual after 5 sick calls in 12 months; your accrual drops by a few hours a month until the fifth sick call drops off.

While I understand the desire to reduce sick calls, my pet peeve is the guy who "never calls in sick". You know, the guy who comes to work and gets every one else sick, yet in his mind, he is "saving the Company". If you're sick, stay the %^@#$^# home!

Thanks Ty!

The only time I've ever had a "question" in almost 12 yrs of 121 was when I called in sick while on RSV after being assigned a trip that backed up to vacation.

Conversation with the cpo went like this.

Me- hey I got thus nasty gram in my vfile?
Cp- what does it say? Hand it him he reads... Followed by typing
Cp- care to elaborate ?
Me- I was sick and unfit for flight.
Cp- well... Don't make a habit of it.
Me- roger that

I've had zero questions about sick calls since.

At Allegiant, you can call in sick whenever you need to and still receive 70 hr guarantee. However, if you call in sick more than 2 days in a row then you need to get a doctor's note. If you call in sick more than 3 days in a row, you must take FMLA. If you call in sick more than a certain number of days in a year (5-6???) you get an airline ticket to corporate on your day off, unpaid, and get to meet with management to be "reminded" that abusing the sick policy is not allowed.

Twice I've been bad sick (injuries) and out a month or more. Easy paperwork, CPO helped.

Sniffles are no big deal as long as you don't call in three times in one month. Less than 10 seconds on the phone and paid for lost trip.

Sick during trip no issue, usually bounce off in a hub if fit to do so.

Never been questioned about it, but then I never get sick on Christmas Day. :D

All of these sound pretty reasonable!!

Thanks!!

That sounds like a terrible policy. More onerous than most regionals. Is there a union at Allegiant?
