Military pilots have the best job security and least cyclical aviation field. What do you think is the most secure flying job in the long run:

- Airline (I guess that is a No No)
- Regionals
- Cargo
- Corporate
- Survey
- ??????

and why?
Thanx in advance ...

Other government organizations like the FBI, DEA, and Border Patrol, though it may not be easy to get in. The FBI requires a four-year degree, technical preferred to be a Special Agent. The Border Patroil I think requires you to be a ground agent first then move into the aviation department. Not too sure about the DEA. But just like any military flying job, these organizations expect you to move around a bit, probably not as much as the military, but pretty close, and in some cases I wouldn't doubt it if it were more to move up the ladder. Just my $0.02.
Regards,

most secure job?

FAA.

You may dress like a tool and make mediocre wages, but nobody gonna lay you off and you can get back at all those guys who beat you up in high school...............

Most secure flying jobs

Most any government flying job is secure. Once you get in the federal Civil Service system, it is hard for them to move you out. Everything else is not as secure.

The military flying may not be as secure as you would think. It ebbs and flows just like the civilian sector, although not as drastic. The security of your job is contingent on your promotion. I've seen great guys passed over and buffoons promoted, kinda like the interview process in the airline industry.

I experienced a period of military draw downs where pilots where finishing flight training and going to a non-flying job. Some pilots where offered a financial incentive to leave. Many folks had to accept desk jobs in the pentagon or nonflying jobs on a carrier to remain competitive in the promotion cycle. Do you remember Tailhook? Lots of America's finest lost careers in this witchhunt that labeled all guilty by association.

On the other hand, I wouldn't worry about the government going out of business or your "union" calling for a strike. I'd agree that military flying offers more stability than most civilian flying jobs but it does have its' degree of stress!

Just food for thought.....

NetJets, of course.

:D

Probably Govt. I know some US customs pilots that make $100K a year, so the pays not that bad. It's just getting in that's tough.

Being an owner/operator.

Having enough money to own your own plane and fly it regularly., beyond that you are at the whim of the world and all of its dynamic factors.

If you are getting into Aviation with the thought of needing security, you are looking in the wrong place.

Unemployment.

Government flying jobs...ask the pilots for the State of Wisconsin what is up with the selling of a whole slew of piston twins and singles and the outsourcing of jobs.
