Airplane purchases
You can finish your ratings at even one of the gold-plated schools with the money you would spend on purchasing an airplane. I wouldn't do it.
I had a friend that owned an Archer briefly. The airplane nickeled-and-dimed him to death, and it was in good condition when he purchased it. He knew the airplane. The engine had great compression and wasn't near TBO. There is this old aviation saying, the two happiest days of airplane ownership are the day you buy an airplane and the day you sell it.
