I have been gone for about a year now on Military Leave and have at least one more year to be on active duty. I hope the ATR or even another Prop to fly when I finally come back to ASA. What is the word around ASA on what is going to happen with the ATR. I have no desire to have anthing to do with the RJ mainly due to their training department and the RJ being a piece of crap.

I don't know where 101040 gets his information from, but I haven't heard that one before. They've been saying that they'll be gone "next year" for the past few years.

ATR Captains have options. Live and work in Ireland. Aer Arann will pay you $100,000 yearly and will take care of your Work Permit and JAR Validation. Contact [email protected] They have 15 ATRs flying in Ireland, the UK and France

The ATR is a good plane...About 1/4 of the current XJT guys flew it and would give their left nut to fly it over the RJ. Or maybe they're just nostalgic for their "trists" in the cargo hold.

Sounds like you may have tried to train/transition to the RJ before. I flew the ATR for a few years, and now the RJ. It is not a piece of crap, nor is the ATR. But the RJ has no where near the problems, especially on the ground, that the ATR does.

As for the training department, yes, the IPs for the ATR are all great guys and instructors. Why you have a beef with the RJ IPs I dunno, but as long as you have a good attitude, come prepared for training, and ask for help if you need it, the vast majority of RJ IPs are just as great and helpful as the ATR IPs. They will bend over backwards to get you through training.

Anyway, best of luck when you return, and thanks for your service to our country.

For what it's worth Scott Hall said that they will be gone Sept. 08 in RGT last week. Now in saying that, 2 months before Brian L. said they would be here until 09... So the answer is no one really knows for sure.
