Flew into MSY the other day and had two really interesting items happen on the way to the gate...first, after landing on Rw 1, we cleared at the second taxiway from the end and began our taxi to the gate using the parallel taxiway, ground says cross 28 proceed to the gate. Earlier while we were on tower freq. I remember a guy on final for 28, so as we are taxing, I look out on the final for 28 and sure enough there is a twin of some sort on about a mile final. I ask my partner if he said anything about holding short of 28 and he says Nope...So I ask him to veriify with ground that we are cleared to cross 28 and ground says yep, cleared to cross 28. So at this point I slow to a brisk walk taxi speed (really about 12kts) to eliminate a potential seperation error with the landing traffic. All the while thinking WTF! Then as we are nearing the intersection of the parallel taxiway that we are using, a SWA 737 taxis into postion on 28 for takeoff. For me to get to the gate I've got to taxi behind him ( distance of about 75 feet) so I again ask my partner to clarify with ground. Ground says proceed to the gate! I tell my partner to tell ground that we're going to hold short until SWA takes-off taking into consideration his jet blast. Maybe tower wasn't going to clear him until after we taxied behind him, I don't know, nobody said anything to that effect and with my luck just as we are going behind him he'll be coming up on the power. Another WTF!

Moral of the story...don't let your guard down.

Anyone else had something similar recently?

Uhhh???? When do you let your guard down??? Aren't they paying you to be alert?? Don't worry though, most folks don't!

By the way, what do you mean by partner??:p

Really sounds like a lot of airports...

I'm hearing a lot of ambiguous taxi clearances these days. It's one thing to be at a small airport with no other traffic and get such a clearance, but it's happening more and more at the larger airports. I don't wonder for a second why runway incursions are so high.

Moral of the story, as you say, don't let your guard down.

That's your ass talking, cause your mouth knows better....
