Does anybody have current information about being a pilot on the 747 with Wasinc? ie: realistic upgrade time, new bases, pay when finished with training. I've been unable to get any current info about what it's like flying for them and if their pilots are happy there. Thanks in advance.

Weren't they the ones requiring your body mass index be below a certain number ? No fat guys need apply ?? I guess Japan doesn't have the EEOC there ? I weigh 170 lbs and I'm insulted. But, as we say in ATL, "So be it ".

[as we say in ATL, "So be it ".[/QUOTE]Hmm...I must have missed something. I thought in ATL it was 'say wut????'

As it was relayed to me...

if you flunk the physical, not to worry, you still have a shot at being an astronaut. :D

As well as Cholesterol numbers, height and probably penis size too.
I guess one out of four isn't a passing grade, huh ??

I flew for JALways on the IASCO contract. The Japanese are fickle creatures. They thought we were not paid enough, but as soon as WASINC bid a lower price, WASINC got the new contracts. My IASCO friends there look at the WASINC guys as scabs.

Yes, the physical is an astronaut physical. If you don't pass, at least you'll know where you stand physically. You will even have psychological test and a visit with a shrink for an hour. Nothing will be secret about your physical condition. No HIPPA in Japan. Yes, there is a penis factor. No penis, no job. The Japanese are not believers in EEO or HIPPA.

Do not interpret the above as my beliefs. I am simply reporting the Japanese EEO and HIPPA beliefs. Also, as a Gaijin, the Japanese will look at you as lowly hired labor, and sub-human to them.

CDG,

That's discouraging news. I can appreciate that foreign carriers don't actually want expats, but if they had their own qualified people they wouldn't be hiring expats, right ?

What form does mistreatment of expats take ? Lower pay, worst schedules, etc. ? Or is it outright demeaning, antisocial behavior of the part of the nationals ? pprune has a long thread re Singapore where it's mentioned that expats aren't welcome, but it's hard to tell what that means.

As long as people continue to line up for the jobs, the nationals can behave any way they want toward expats...no harm/no foul.
