Just wondering what some thoughts are on the Cash bonus they are offering 6-12 year AF folks (pilots included) to voluntarily separate and waive ADSC's. An 8 year Captain would get around $96,000 lump sum before taxes.

I think it's a great deal if you were already planning on separating and the timing lines up...if not, in no way should this factor in your decision (my opinion). Not all ADSC's are included so take a look to see if your airframe is one of them.

It all depends on whether you have a job lined up.... in my opinion. Or if you have a reserve position lined up. I would have left the military a couple of times during previous 'voluntary separations' but the job market wasn't there. So I stayed in the AF. Also, the pay in the military is better than most airline jobs these days.

I thought all the force shaping was non-rated officers?

If they're trying to get rid of pilots, aren't they going to reduce the number of UPT slots given out?

bad news for me....

VSP Question

Does anyone know if your AFSC for your year group show exactly "even", are you still considered eligible for VSP? Mine is showing 0 on the "matrix". Do I have a chance of getting approved if I decide to play my cards?

Thanks!

Sounds like your year group does not have an overage. You probably won't be eligible for the money (under VSP), but Palace Chase is definitely an option if you're still wanting to separate and keep flying in the Reserves.

VSP Update

The FAQ's on the Force Shaping website at AFPC answers a lot, but to recap What we were briefed...Pilots are eligible if there is an overage in the AFSC in your year group. If you have an ADSC from UPT than you can still apply for VSP but need to add a memo stating why you should have it waived and apply under a miscellaneous separation. Also, you can even be in a PCS /PME status and apply. You will incur a commitment in the IRR for a short time. There are a limited number of VSP slots funded (3k+) so first in will be a qualifier. Also, if you are meeting a Major's board you can pull the paperwork if you are selected for promotion with no repercussions within a certain timeframe of your board.
