MY CP got a message from the FAA the other day asking who was in a certain airplane at a certain time. As it turns out, I was in the airplane at the time in question. All the message said was, "Who departed XYZ airport in N12345 at this time, and departed to the north?" I was in the airplane at the time, however I was 50 miles south of the airport, and I hadn't turned north the entire flight. I was in contact with all control towers and our local approach control as well, so it couldn't be an airspace violation. I filed and activated a flight plan. I got a weather breifing including all NOTAMS and there were no TFR's or anything significant. I was at safe altitudes the entire flight, and nothing out of the ordinary happened. The only possible reason (that I can think of) the FAA called could be because I was monitoring 121.5 to demonstrate to my student, and I happened to hear an ELT. I told the nearsest tower about it and they said that they knew about it and where it was. I can't think of what I could have done to have the FAA call about me. It has been less that 10 days so I can fill out a NASA form, but what should it say? Nothing out of the ordinary happened. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

And while we're on the subject, anyone ever get hired with a violation on their record. (thanks alot AL Gore)
Thanks

I know someone who was hired at Chitaco with a class "C" airspace bust. I was shocked. We all Fvdk up sometime, just depends if you get cought. I would say nothing and say I don't know what you are talking about!!

i would agree with the above. and dont offer any information that they dont directly ask you about. they are just waiting for you to say the wrong thing at the wrong time to make their job easier...

advice

here is advice, please heed it, REGARDLESS if you "think" you are in the clear

1. Call AOPA Legal or ALPA Legal and discuss it with them

2. Fill out a NASA Form regarding the event, if you just cant put a finger on what it was, go back to the flight and try to determine what portions of the flight, etc, may be drawing the FAA´s interest.

good luck

Thanks for the advice. The FAA called back today and it turned out to be the wrong tail number and the wrong day. The sure know how to scare the hell out of someone though!!!! Thanks for the responses though!

1-800-TRUCKMASTERS

Just kidding, good luck and fly safe.

But I can't drive a stick!!! Just kidding, I thought I might need that number yesterday. I actuallt knew a guy from flight school who got all of his ratings and then started driving a truck, and he says that he couldn't be happier. to each his own, I guess.

Satpak77 had the best advise

Glad it worked out
