Who has done it? Problems? Post-op Pain? FAA issues? Etc

Tell me what I need to know before I get a blade applied to my jewelry bag

I had it done, painless, I've had fillings from my dentist that were far worse.

A friend had one that went terribly wrong and caused him problems for years.

Pays your money and take your chance.

There are just to many jokes waiting to be said. You should see the looks I get when I tell people that I bought a Do It Yourself At Home Kit off E-Bay!

Had it done 10 years ago, uneventful.

Painful - no, uncomfortable, tender - yes.

Doc recommended 4 days off work. Suggested the surgery on Thurs & take a 4 day weekend. I was on a stretch of 7 days off when I had it done, then went back to work as scheduled.

FAA issues? None.

Just report it on your next regular AME exam. Then on subsequent exams you can check the "yes" box but state "previously reported".

heard one guy got an air bubble trapped in one of the tubes. Caused problems at altitude, but fine on the ground. Hate it for him in a rapid decompression situatoin.

Had it four years ago. No problems. Went back to work three days later and had some mild discomfort, so took another couple of days off. No problems since.

A little tender and achy for a couple of days, but the wife was so grateful that she waited on me hand and foot for a few days.

No FAA issues. As stated at your next medical just report it.

(I am a physician and pilot - but not an AME)

Had one a week ago today. NEDude and NCFlyer are right on. I plan to fly this Sunday (I'm now pain-free & off meds)

Will report on next medical. In my (non-FAA) opinion it does not require AME input until your next medical, if no complications and a normal recovery.

It's a relatively simple procedure with a low risk of complications. It was uncomfortable and now that it's over I wish I'd accepted the IV sedation during the procedure that I was offered. Instead, I had local with a Valium tablet for premed. A few beers would have been more effective for the premed.

After the procedure, be sure they check you out in about six weeks to be sure you're shooting blanks. It takes that long to clear the tubes, and if you have unprotected sex before then you might have a surprise.

..JCJ is soo right...had mine done by an AF SG, Ceasar, who was a bud...I took the Valium, which was so nice and dozed off...and Ceasar (a great guy-but hair brained) stuck the 'needle' in without 'briefing the crew'...I went back to the age of 10 when a wasp stung me there...long story...and I went 'to the moon, Alice!'...we all laughed, Ceasar, me and the 22 year old female enlisted tech...who always ended up in line with me at the BX...and would jez giggle...and would call me colonel PeeWee...or was it Mandingo...it's been a while...good luck bud, and it's painless, unless ya got Ceaser...and yer wife will love you...

...and when it is done, ya look down 'there'...and it kinda looks like NEDude's avatar...with the teeth...yeh baby...

Yep, no biggie. I suggest two Vicodin & two glasses of wine for each of the first couple nights. Heed the Dr's advice & stay sedentary for the first few days. You'll feel OK but, apparently, those who get active too early get cantaloupes . . . not good. Ditto what everybody else says about the wife's appreciation . . . being removed from the gene pool is good.
