Hey Guys--just wondering if any of you used your GI Bill to get the ATP from an 'accredited' place. I am having a tough time finding a place that is apparently not FAR Part 61. I guess they have to be Part 141??? Any ideas or solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hey,

I used my GI bill for my Commercial, Instrument, CFI and 737 type rating. It has to be a 141, VA-approved school.

What you need to do is take your records down to the local FAA FSDO office. You should walk out with an ATP MEL w/DC-9 and DC-10 type ratings. Won't cost you a penny. I'n not 100% on that, but I think I'm right, somebody who's done the conversion on here will certainly correct me if need be.

The Aero Clubs work great. If you're in Jersey the nearest one (I think) would be Quantico or Hanscom, If you're at Travis, Beale still had one when I was stationed there.

Thanks for your service.

If your training was all mil. you wont walk out with an ATP unless you currently hold that rating. You will walk out with MEL and DC-9/DC-10 privilages on you comm. ticket.

My man is correct here. No ATP from the FSDO just from mil training. Got my DC-10 type at the Philly FSDO but it took at trip down to HPA where I had my ATP/737 type paid for by the GI Bill (60% that is, the rest was on me), but only after I left AD and went to the reserves. Cost me six years in commitment to the reserves, but that's too easy to pass up. Got hired at SWA 6 months after finishing the type and ATP so the $7000 lottery ticket paid off! Best of luck.
