Rumor is no hiring until December 2012, something big is going to happen soon, feels like a merger around the corner.

Merger? Really?
To me, it feels like oil prices are moving higher. How many aircraft get parked if oil crosses 110? 120? 130?

Cheap oil's the lifeblood of the aviation industry. If the price keeps moving higher, age 65 isn't going to offset all of the older aircraft that will be parked after passenger traffic falls due to higher ticket prices.
You know we're in trouble when we start seeing 'staycation' commercials. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Staycation

With regards to oil prices, thankfully it's an election year so the politicians won't want people angry overy higher fuel prices. (At least until the election is over)

With the exception of the 190's (not in min fleet count) we cannot park more a/c as we (east - not sure about west) are already within a plane or 2 of min fleet.

If things get bad enough, I wouldn't count on our fleet mins. The company would do whatever it would take.

The US sanctions/sabre rattling with Iran and the veto of the Keystone pipeline tells me that Obama doesn't care if oil goes to $200/barrel before the election.

US Air HR said back in December 2011 that they were hiring 50 for the Spring and then hiring would start back up in the Summer. Sounds to me like nothing has changed at all. This thread is baseless.

Than why did u.s airways close their pilot application on their website. Not taking any new applications for now. Current existing applications will still remain in the system. MY rumor was from the CP in CLT. They would start hiring 50/month in December but hey who knows what is going to happen, wish everyone the best.

15 east 737s will be retired by the end of the year. They're being replaced by 12 A321s. At that point, we will be at the fleet minimum.

It never ends.

Brocckktapp my sincere apologizes, thank you sir for your sarcastic cynicism, very polite of you sir.

Then who is the CP in CLT? Initials please.

For management, "bad enough" means "good enough". IMO, US needs the cover of BK in order to merge and keep the slashed costs in place until the merger expenses are covered. So when you see the new American livery, thank a pilot. He paid for it.

Well, if it get's good enough for management, we're hosed. If we get tied up with AA, it won't just be AA pilots paying for it.
