I'm going into the Guard and I understand that some meds may require a waiver. I'm on Lipitor. Is that one of the approved statins? If not and you know of one that is, I'd be interested in hearing about it. I'd like to be armed with that info before the physical.

Thanks....

All I have to say is check out Red Yeast Rice, Green Tea, Almonds, and cut back on your coffee.........

Just completed the guard physical and found out that Lipitor is not approved. I've got to get a dang waiver! The medical portion is the toughest part of going from Navy to ANG.

Just a word of caution for those of you who may find yourself in the same postition in the near future. It'll all work out but it's another delay.

Yah, I'll try to green tea, almonds and whatever else the fruitcake in the healthfood store says, but the cats already out of the bag on my medical forms!

Whoa! Lipitor's approved; it just requires a waiver. Not a big deal. There's a difference between unapproved drugs and ones that require a waiver. I'm also on BP meds, and the ones that the cardiologist prescribed were not approved. The flight surgeon switched me to a BP med (lisinopril) which is approved. ... BTW, that's another waiver for me.

Thanks for setting me straight. I have a hard time understanding the rational for much of what the medical folks are demanding! It's a bit frustrating because I can't schedule a training class until the physical and waiver process is complete.

Bureaucracy at its finest. Hang in there; it takes a while sometimes.

I'm telling ya, check out Red Yeast Rice, almonds, and some green tea......combine that with cutting out coffee and throwing in some exercise.....and it will do some great things......

Some of us are cursed by genetics. THE best that my cholesterol has ever been is 217. That's when I ran 40 miles/wk, lifted 6 days a week, had a diet extremely low in fat, and weighed 160 (I'm 6' tall).
20 years later, my cholesterol is 270 (without meds), I run 5 miles/wk, lift 6 days a week, eat whatever I want and weigh 220. The dietary sacrifice involved in getting my cholesterol level down by 53 points is definitely NOT worth it.

Pravocol is approved/all need waivers

Pravochol is approved for use in fighters, any other is not. Cut mine from 330 to 180. Dad would be proud.
