I would like to know if I was flying for the US Coast Guard past my 37th birthday would I still have a chance to work for US Customs?

I talked to Customs at their display at Oshkosh. Bottom line, they told me that once you're over 37, you can't do it. It has to do with being around long enough for the retirement, although it seemed a rather bureaucratic reason.

You have to be able to put in 20 years

Huggyu2 is correct. My father flew for the US Customs Service and it has to do with mandatory law enforcement retirement age (catagory "C"). It used to be 55, but they extended it to 57 around 1990.

If you were prior US Gov., all your previous time would go towards you retirement formula.

Sorry old man!

Yep, you "must be able to complete 20 years of active federal service prior to age 57." Pretty rowdy group, the age demographic requirements matched up with a lot of O-3's from all services that couldn't make O-4. Customs scarfed them up because they didn't have to fund flight training. I went to recurrent with a couple of these guys who were trying their very best to be the federal version of Crockett and Tubbs from "Miami Vice."

So these guys lived on sailboats and owned pet alligators named Elvis?

Thanks everyone! Iam actually in the Army and looking for a change of pace, I really feel fortunate to be able to fly and thankfull to the Army for the oportunity it has given me(dream come thru : flying). But I have reached that time where I need to move on. I love flying but the Army is taking the best of me. I was interested in both US Customs and Coast Guard, if I could make that transition . Coast Guard because I still have an active duty obligation and need the change: Customs as possible future . I am 32 yrs old now.

And ran around wearing their hair feathered, t-shirts under a blazer and no socks in their penny loagers.
