Looking for some insight. Should a new hire bid the Airbus or 190? Airbus on reserve, or 190 with a shorter road to secondary line with a little better pay for the first year. Should I be worried about getting stuck on the 190 after the first year?

You'll have to answer the first few questions based on what works best for your life. However, I seriously doubt you will get stuck on the 190 with the retirements officially starting in 19 months and attrition starting to uptick well before that.

I don't think you will have a choice. All new hires are going to the E190.

However, the company did not hold guys to the 1 year training lock on the E190.

Recalled pilots I trained in December, were awarded group II on the March and May bids and were sent back to training fairly quickly.

I'm not sure that would continue for the new hires off the street. The good news it's only a year lock if you're held to it.

I would also say that the E190 is a great airplane for someone just joining the company. It should be an easy transition for someone with a solid background.

I know they waived the seat lock on the recalls, but I also know of a handful of new hires from the January class who tried to bid off the 190 on the July bid and were denied... so it seems like they are enforcing the seat lock going forward.

My experience would say take the E-190. I was recalled 7-8 months ago and I am a secondary block holder if not a primary block holder. Guys in my recall class are already long gone off the E-190, so they were not being held to the seat lock-but that could change I assume. I do not think you would sit reserve too long on the E-190. They don't beat you up on reserve either, like some airlines. E-190 reserves don't seem to fly too much. When I was on short-call (higher guarentee) I was averaging about 10-15 hrs/month. (PS.short call reserve is great if you live in base). Again, this is all from my experience and my opinion!

Anybody know if there are currently E-190 classes going on? OR know of future new hire class dates? just curious...
 
It is an unrelevant difference. Everyone but line holders (with per diem) makes about $3000 a month. Any aircraft, all the same, different lifestyle.
