Who knows the skinny on ups do you have to have an internal rec. do they have a sponsorship program like fedex? what there hiring plans are?

I believe @ UPS you need internal letters of rec. The higher up in mangement or the more senior a pilot you know, the better your shot is at a call. I also think they should have flown with you at some point.
