One of our crewmembers recently crunched UPS' profit numbers and the results are incredible. UPS made a $890 million net profit in the third quarter of 2004, that's breaks down to almost $10 million a day or $403,000 an HOUR!

Look for an anouncement soon regarding the selection of the very large freighter aircraft. 2005 has the makings for a very exciting year at UPS with hopefully the contract getting settled, taking over of the Menlo flying, continued expansion in Asia, probable entry into service of the very large freighter. If all that comes to fruition, it will mean continued hiring of many more crewmembers.

And your UPS Management can't afford to buy you guys/gals a pot of coffee when you depart Louieville!! Talk about cheap, I thought (still think) our management is bad here in Memfo - FedEx, but come on.....

We've started another new hire class today - 4,300 pilots on the list!

I wasn't in anyway slamming or trying to slam the FedEx pilots, just relaying the incredible profitability at UPS. I'll be the first to say that UPS management is incredibly cheap.

It's great that you've started another new hire class today, I hope that our hiring will not stop anytime soon.

I personally don't drink coffee, so it matters not to me about the freebie coffee. I'd rather UPS save the pennies the coffee costs and put it toward the aircraft that they pay cash for.

The bottom line is that business for both UPS and FedEx has never been better, while it seems that the price of fuel is killing the pax carriers, at UPS anyway, hedging and a fuel surcharge that more that makes up for the increase in the fuel price, UPS is more profitable now than at anytime in it's almost 100yr history.

thats incredible, congrats to UPS (and to FedEx by the way). As a side note, it is entertaining to see so many regional pilots who woke up today, 2004, and realized that "uh, freight is more stable than PAX, I will slide UPS/FDX a resume"

gee, no sh1t

congrats

UPSer,

Just a lousy attempt at humor on my part tonight - had @ 3 hours of sleep last night due to the baby and I've been tanked on the "Java" for the last week...

I'm embarassed (not surprised though) that FedEx has YET to implement the CASS system even though Donald Maliniak, Vice President, Labor Relations Law, said in his letter to Robert Chimenti of FDX/ALPA May 25, 2004 that: "...we plan to reinstate offline jumpseating by October 1, 2004." It's December now and FedEx has yet to implement CASS. You won't see me picking up Advanced Volunteer or Draft flights as the company doesn't live up to their word - why should I work extra for them....didn't intend to hijack this thread.

Hope you guys get a decent contract .......

ive had my stuff in at ups since may 2001.....still waitin

yeah but look how many boy-wonders at the regionals/mil/etc woke up this morning (yes, THIS morning) and realized that 9/11 and fuel prices have not (not really) affected UPS and FedEx, and being rocket scientists, they threw out the "pax only major airline" party line and woke up.

I had a guy tell me recently that "well, with the pax carriers really not secure anymore, I am looking at UPS and FedEx"

oh really? "looking at 'em" huh? you gonna "slide them a resume" and "see what feedback you get?"

gimme a break

there are guys since 2001,2000,1999 who have had UPS/FDX in the primary sight since Day 1

my .02 cents

"And your UPS Management can't afford to buy you guys/gals a pot of coffee when you depart Louieville!! Talk about cheap..." well sometimes things are better than they seem--have you had the coffee? it has that warm consistancy of used motor oil and the pungent smell of...well I'm getting off track--yes they are cheap and the option of providing the coffee would be nice.

" We've started another new hire class today - 4,300 pilots on the list!" --we are a long way from 4300! Hey our mngt. team did decide to hire 100, oh yeh-the year before they decided to trim the fat and boot 100.

That is really good news. I have heard many in the industry say, if you are going to go cargo, go UPS. Good news in aviation is tough to find. Is there a "route map" of the destinations UPS operates to?

As a side-note, I just hope not too many "bow-wonders" change their mind and apply to UPS, that's not fair! The hypocrisy.

What does your last statement mean? Were some pilots actually laid off and later re-hired?

In short: UPS threatened to furlough 100 citing mixed economic conditions, union encouraged its members to stop picking up open flights on days off, UPS relented and cancelled planned furlough citing "improving business conditions".

NOT coincidentally we have been in contract negotiations for 2 YEARS now. I think everyone that has been through contract negotiations understands the company's move for what it was.
