Referencing the thread about MEM and FedEX, can any Louisville area folks attest to the pros and cons of that cargo hub? Would Cincinatti be a doable commute (<2 hrs)?

SDF is a nice place to live (not downtown though) good schools (xavier!!!), horse racing, nice and easy airport to travel out of. Also you are close to Kentucky lake and not to far from lake cumberland , both awesome for boating and such. You can also look over in Indiana (just across the river) and find nice places to live at good prices, the state income taxes are lower in Indiana also. As far as Cincinnati, I personally wouldn't live in southern Ohio but Northern Kentucky is nice and has lower housing costs, so more house for your buck. The drive is about an hour and 15 or 30 from northern kentucky, it's straight down Interstate 71, and there is rarley much traffic between n. KY and SDF on 71, so the commute isn't that bad.

I can't really speak to the living conditions in SDF, but I can say that there are a number of pilots I fly with here in CVG that live in and drive up from the SDF area. They seem to enjoy the area, and the commute isn't bad, according to them.

The area around CVG is decent, as UM#1 mentioned the housing prices are very reasonable, esp. in the NKY area as there is a tremendous amount of building and growth.

And actually, Xavier Univeristy is located in Cininnati, as is of course U of Cincinnati and Miami University (OH) is nearby. Add an NFL team, a MLB team and pro Hockey (AHL) and there are plenty of sports in the CVG area.

Not for everybody, but a doable commute and a decent community.

Yeah I actually meant Saint Xavier High School in Louisville, but my duh for not thinking about Xavier in Cinci which has an awesome College B-Ball team. The "Vill" (as called by locals of Louisville) has many good elementry and high schools and as expected in kentucky, the high schools such as Saint X have great Basketball teams...

and speaking of teams...The Bengals got a decent 1st round RB pick and Bye Bye Corey.....The year will be a far cry from Who Dhey!!!as the Bengals shall rock!!! Although Stupid Ohio passed a new Anti-Alcohol tailgating law....we call Ohioans "BFO's" = Bastards from Ohio

Lu-a-vul (Louisville) is a great city to raise a family. Been here since '88. East side is where the growth is and more of the upscale type of neighborhoods. Public school system isn't the best, but then again, who's is? My daughter is in a private Christian academy with a new campus 2 miles from our home.

The downtown area is being rejuvenated with many attractions along with the new river front park area. The convention center brings in top shows and attractions every year without the big city crowds and hassles. Crime rate is relatively low due to, what I consider, an extremely large police force for a city this size. That's not necessarily a bad thing. Just seems like one is on every street corner. L'ville has some of the best medical facilities and hospitals which have been attributed with many world renown medical breakthroughs. The city also has the U of L medical school.

Events such as "Thunder of Louisville" and the "Kentucky Derby" (may have heard of it?:D) draw huge crowds every year and are fun for the whole family and friends.

The best part of livin' in L'ville is that I don't have to commute to work!!!:D

Living in Louisville might make your life easier in regards to driving to and from work, but speaking from experience there's nothing better than knowing I have the mountains and Atlantic Ocean close by. I never did care much for Louisville during my 6 year stint there. Public schools are terrible. Summer weather is horrible. On the other hand being able to jump in my car and be home within 30 minutes of my trips end is sadly missed. Oh well that's what makes the world go around. See you around the ASC.

Ups and downs

I know what you mean. I live 100 miles from work and the drive can wear me down. But my wife and I like it here and wouldn't trade that for a 30 mile commute that others who work with me have. Priorities...

Been in Louisville for 4 years now and really like it. People are friendly and I've made a lot of friends here, it's a big city without the big city headaches, and when I go to and from work, the biggest headache is how much traffic there is on the highway.

Hey UPS CAPT, I live on the East side of town too. Sounds like we're neighbors, CA is just down the street from me.
