What are good areas to live that are within 90 minutes or so of ONT? Specifically, good areas for families with younger children? Good school areas, and somewhat affordable would be ideal of course. Thx

From ONT, if you go anywhere west (towards LA) it gets pricey fast. Just north of ONT is Rancho Cucamunga (along the base of the mountain), nice area. Go east a little and you are in Fontana (California Speedway). Not the best area. North on I-15 towards the desert, affordable....you drive up there andyou see why. It wouldnt be bad if you were into dirt bikes. Drive up to Big Bear or Lake Arrowhead area. Nice and Fresh air. Drive south on I-15, Corona and Chino Hills area. Both nice, growing....but smoggy and smells like cow manure. Farther south on I-15, Temecula and Murrieta. Both growing like crazy. About 1 hour drive to ONT. 4 bedroom/3 bath/3 car garage...$550,000-$700,000. Bigger homes on 2 acres for $1.3 mil. But if you are going to pay that kind of money, go towards Orange County and buy a 4bed,2bath for $900,000. Orange County summer time highs, 80s. Riverside summer time highs pushing 100-110. (but its a dry heat).

90 minutes from ONT could mean just across I-10! (I grew up in Upland).

Skiandsurf has it about right...house prices are incredibly high compared to other parts of the US (and other parts of Calif.) Places to stay away from...parts of Pomona, Corona and Fontucky (Fontana). Places in Chino and Ontario aren't bad. Uplands fairly nice (I'm biased...I graduated Upland High!) If you go to the desert, the commute can be as short as 30 mintues or as long as an hour. Nice communities up in the Victorville/Apple Valley area...house prices aren't quite as insane...yet. Hemet/Temecula/Rancho Murietta/Elsinore is seeing some growth...my parents lived in Temecula for a couple of years, nice place, again...growing.

You will experience some of the most crazy-a$$ driving/traffic you have ever seen. Plan ahead and you can miss most of it.

Good luck...

Eric

Oak Hills is very nice and right above Cajon Pass. Gets hot in the summer but the beach and mtns are not to far.

North County of San Diego, Carlsbad, Encinitas....some UPS pilots live in that part and commute on reserve min call out 1+45...No problems..
