After spending big bucks today on a flight engineer written so that I can apply to UPS, for some reason I cannot access the application online. Does anybody knows if they stop accepting applications or the system is down?

Thank you,

If you already tried to apply and answered any of the initial questions as no (ie. you didn't have your FE written and you put no in that box), you are going to have to reapply with a different email address. If that doesn't work, then I don't know what the problem is.

Hmmm, I just noticed I cannot access the application from www.upsjobs.com anymore? In the past when I clicked on "Professional Opportunities" and then "Air Operations" I would see "Flight Officer" as one of the choices. Also if I typed "Flight Officer" in their search it would come up - now it says "There are no matches to your search at this time."

I hope they aren't about to close the application window?

However, this link still works: Apply Here Try it.

Mega is right, if you answered NO to any questions - you are locked out and must either contact HR to get it unblocked OR apply with a different email address.

Good luck to you!

Well you guys were right, I changed the email address and it work fine. The only weird thing was that instead of filling out the application for flight officer it went to second officer. Well I guess I'll just sit and wait.

thank you for all the support!

flight officer vs. second officer - it does not matter, when you get hired they'll put you in the seat they have an opening for, could be as an FE could be as an FO. Withing a year you'll be able to bid the seat you want anyway!

stupid question: FE written, does it stay current as long as I am employed at a 121 carrier?

If your company has a flight engineer position, you wouldn't have to take it again as long as you stay employed with that company. As soon as you left that company you would no longer be employed with a 121 carrier due to the job change, even if the next job was also 121. So in order to qualify as having a current written, the time frame would fall back to the 2 year limit.

Argue this all you want, but I don't know of any 121 that would hire you and allow you to use a 7 year old written test to qualify you to test for the FE certificate.

Bottom line, as many in this forum have said, keep it within 2 if you need it for the next job.

Meatwallet – ask yourself if you were a recruiter – what does it say about a person who ”really” wants to work for “your” airline but is willing to risk a multi-million dollar career just to save a few bucks?

If you have to, take a loan or use a credit card but don’t risk it! I did a search on the subject and copied and pasted some of the responses.

Bottom line – GET THE TEST AGAIN IF YOU HAVE TO!

For the folks who got the interview with the expired FEX written, did you get hired, and if not was it because of the written.

Well, how will you ever know? No airline will ever tell you why you were shot down – because of lawsuits! Are you really willing to take the chance to save $75?

Your FE written WILL NOT expire if you are CONTINUOUSLY EMPLOYED with a 121 carrier.

Correct, however my friend who interviewed at UPS was not only asked if he had a current FE written but if the written was less than 2-years old? It seems to imply that they do NOT care much for the part 121 exemption.

Why would anyone want to risk a multi-million dollar career just to save a few bucks? Put in on a credit card if you have to, but don’t push your luck!

There were several posts not too long ago regarding this subject.

I got a UPS interview with an expired FE written, but when they called with the interview, Buz asked several questions about it - end result was that I had to retake it before I came to the interview.

If you're too lazy to retake the FE written prior to the interview - I think it really shows a lack of interest in the carrier.

FedEx wants it within 24 calender months regardless of the reg...
I agree with these two. Suck it up and go take the written again. You will be glad to erase any doubt.
Interesting. My friend interviewed at UPS several months ago and he was asked if he had a current FE written; before he even answered they added “..by current we mean - has it been taken more than 24 months ago?…”

His was really current - not part 121 loophole current - but I was surprised to hear that someone in your class who was using the 121 exception was hired, since they were so specific during my friend's interview. Btw, my friend got hired too.

"went to airinc in DCA and asked this exact question to an "interviewing" pilot and he said it was fine that it was expired. They get a waiver from the SDF FSDO. Dont waste the time, money or effort." Skippy

Called my friend at OKC fsdo; there’s no such thing as “a waiver from FEX written expiration.”

If you’ve been gone from a 121 gig for more than 24 hours, it is NOT valid, no exceptions. He said that the part 121 FE written “carry-over rule” (that’s what he called it) initially was meant for people who were working for a company and who one day would have to move to a different position WITHIN the same company. The feds never anticipated that people would be “taking their 5 year old FE written exams with them to a new company"; however, since they unintentionally created a loophole people are now using it. Nevertheless, not sure why you were told that they have a “waiver” for the currency since there is no such thing.

Btw, anyone going to an interview risking a multi-million dollar career just so he/she can skip retaking a written exam is, in my mind, extremely unwise.

“Dont waste the time, money or effort.”Maybe it was their way of telling you not to waste their time???
