UPS to Add Heavy Freight Facility in Louisville, Ky.
UPS will add a new $82.5 million, 700,000-square-foot heavy freight facility to its existing Louisville, Ky. operations.
The expansion will enable international and North American overnight, expedited, second-day and deferred air freight services through the Worldport Hub, said UPS.
The new facility will bring 720 new jobs to Louisville with an estimated annual payroll of $12 million, UPS said. The company expects to create 120 new full-time positions and 600 part-time positions.
UPS is already Louisville's largest private employer, with more than 17,000 workers, according to the Louisville Courier Journal.
The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority offered up to $20 million in tax incentives to attract new jobs. State officials hope to attract another 400 new full-time jobs over the next 10 years as a result of economic development spurred by the expanded hub.
Steve Higdon, head of Greater Louisville Inc., said the hub "opens up whole new markets in terms of economic development."
"UPS is grateful that the state extended this offer," said John Hindman, UPS Airlines vice president of Public Affairs.
